Banks in Belgium starting with :letter
Here you see a selection: just banks in Belgium with a name starting with :letter. The figures for Belgium mentioned here apply to all 333 banks, not just the ones under :letter.
If the bank you need is missing here, try another letter – the registered name can differ from the name people use. The complete list remains one click away when you cannot find the bank here.
Check the code before you pay
Have the recipient send you their bank details straight from a recent statement. A wrong code may lead to delays, a payment being sent back or additional charges.
This list draws on public sources. Even so, banks merge, rename themselves or change codes, so information can be out of date. Use our data as a reference, not as the final word; the recipient’s bank details are leading. GoldexPay is not a bank and is not affiliated with the banks listed.
Watch out for payment requests containing a new account, especially when they come by email. A valid BIC tells you nothing about who owns the account.
What a sender needs to pay you in Belgium
A sender in another country will ask for a few details about your account. Share the account holder’s name, the IBAN or account number, your bank’s SWIFT code and your address.
Your bank’s code appears in our list. Some sending banks may also want the name and address of your bank; it does no harm to include it.
Do not be surprised if the incoming amount is below what the sender paid. Charges on incoming payments differ from bank to bank – your bank’s price list tells you what applies. Make clear with the sender who covers the fees.
Recognising a SWIFT code from Belgium
Bank identifier codes follow one international format: eight characters, sometimes followed by three more. It starts with a four-letter bank code, followed by two letters for the country and a two-character location code.
In every code from Belgium, letters five and six show the two-letter ISO code of Belgium – that is the quickest way to spot one. If those two letters do not match Belgium, the code belongs to a bank in another country, so check again.
The optional last three characters stand for a branch or department; XXX is used for the head office. Use a branch code just when the recipient explicitly gives you one – otherwise stick with the head office.
Belgium and the Euro
Most accounts in Belgium are usually held in EUR, the local currency. When you pay another currency, the amount has to be converted at some point.
Where the conversion happens has an effect on how much arrives, since every bank sets its own rate. In many cases you pay less to send EUR directly through a transfer service that converts near the mid-market rate. On larger amounts, even a small difference in the rate can be worth more than the fee.
Paying in euros to Belgium
Since Belgium is part of the SEPA zone, a euro transfer to an account in Belgium usually requires just the IBAN. Most banking apps do not require the BIC for these payments.
You still need the BIC for payments in other currencies or transfers from countries outside SEPA. SEPA transfers normally land within one business day, and instant transfers in seconds where both banks support them. Fees are generally low as long as no currency is converted; the conversion is where it gets expensive.
Bank or transfer service for Belgium?
When you transfer money to Belgium through a regular bank, the fee you see is only part of what you pay. There is the transfer fee, sometimes charges from intermediary banks along the way and, above all, the margin on the exchange rate if the money is converted.
The real cost is often in the rate. An easy check: set the offered rate against the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
For a lot of routes, a transfer service is cheaper than a traditional bank transfer – mostly thanks to the exchange rate. GoldexPay compares transfer services side by side so you can see what actually arrives in Belgium before you commit.
How long does a transfer to Belgium take?
How quickly money arrives in Belgium depends on several factors: the currency, the number of banks in between, daily processing deadlines and differences in time zone. Bank holidays in Belgium or in the sending country add a day or more.
If the money is late, the sender should contact the sending bank for a trace – the receiving bank often cannot see a payment that has not arrived. Save your transfer receipt.
Most SWIFT codes in Belgium: BNP Paribas Securities Services, Belgium
BNP Paribas Securities Services, Belgium leads the list for Belgium in SWIFT/BIC codes. Its head office code is PARBBEBZXXX, which is the code to use when no branch is specified.
Banks differ in how many codes they register, so the count is not a ranking of size. Unless a branch code is given, the head office code PARBBEBZXXX works for transfers to this bank.
