About our data and how to check a code

Have the recipient copy their bank details directly from a recent statement. An incorrect BIC can cause a delay, a payment being sent back or extra fees – compare it with the code in our list.

Which bank in Chad has the most codes?

In our directory, Banque des Etats de L'afrique Centrale D.n. Tchad has the largest number of SWIFT/BIC codes in Chad. The head office uses BEACTDNDXXX, which is the code to use when no branch is specified.

Many codes often means separate codes for branches, departments or services. Unless the recipient asks for a branch, BEACTDNDXXX is fine for transfers to this bank.

Why a transfer to Chad needs a SWIFT code

Since Chad is outside SEPA, a transfer from abroad normally goes through SWIFT. This means you always need the SWIFT/BIC code of the recipient’s bank, together with the account number or IBAN.

Not all countries use IBAN numbers. The receiving bank usually provides a list of required details for incoming international payments – follow them exactly. Before it arrives, a transfer can go through correspondent banks.

Getting paid from abroad into an account in Chad

Someone abroad who wants to pay you needs a few details from you – incomplete details often cause delays. Share your name as registered with the bank, your account number or IBAN, the BIC of your bank and your address.

Expect that the incoming amount is smaller than the amount on the sender’s receipt. Charges on incoming payments differ per bank – your bank’s price list tells you what applies. Make clear with the sender who pays which costs before the money is sent.

How SWIFT codes from Chad are built

A SWIFT code is 8 or 11 characters long and follows a fixed pattern. First comes four letters for the bank, followed by a two-letter country code and two characters for the location.

You can recognise a bank code from Chad from the fifth and sixth characters. When those two letters point to another country, the code belongs to a bank somewhere else, so check again.

The last three characters, if present, identify a branch or department; XXX is used for the head office. For most transfers the head office code is what you need.
