How a SWIFT/BIC code from Singapore is built up

A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:

BBVA Bank code
4 letters that identify the bank.
SG Country code
2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
SG Location code
2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
XXX Branch code
3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.

Bank SWIFT codes for Singapore

This directory covers 504 banks and financial institutions in Singapore and 880 SWIFT/BIC codes between them. You need a SWIFT/BIC code mostly when making payments across borders.

Every bank is listed with its own page showing its main code and, where available, branch codes. Below the list you can read how codes from Singapore are built, how to send money there at a fair price and what to check before you pay.

How reliable is this list?

The best place to find the correct BIC remains paperwork issued by the bank. If the code you have does not match the code listed here, do not guess.

This list is compiled from publicly available sources and is updated regularly. Even so, banks merge, rename themselves or retire codes and our data may lag behind. Use our data as a reference rather than the last word. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site and has no link to the banks in this list.

Scammers regularly use payment requests carrying new bank details. A valid BIC says nothing about who owns the account: criminals use real codes too.

Filter: banks in Singapore with :letter

This list only shows the banks in Singapore whose name starts with :letter. The figures for Singapore mentioned here apply to every bank we list and not only this letter.

If a bank does not appear under :letter, try another letter. Use the full list for Singapore if you are not sure how the name is spelled.

Getting paid from abroad into an account in Singapore

When you expect a payment from another country on an account in Singapore, give the sender everything they need in one go. Share your name as registered with the bank, the IBAN or account number, your bank’s SWIFT code and your address, which some banks require.

Your bank’s code is in the list on this page. Some banks may also want your bank’s address.

What lands in your account can be lower than what was sent. Fees for incoming transfers vary per bank – your bank’s price list tells you what applies. On invoices, state how the fees are split to avoid a shortfall.

BNP Paribas Securities Services SA and its SWIFT codes

BNP Paribas Securities Services SA tops our list for Singapore in the number of SWIFT/BIC codes. The head office uses BPTSSGSGXXX, which is the code to use when no branch is specified.

The number of codes says something about how it registers branches and services than about its size. Making a payment to BNP Paribas Securities Services SA? Use BPTSSGSGXXX unless a specific branch code is requested.

Paying in SGD: what conversion costs you

The currency of Singapore is the Singapore Dollar (SGD). When you pay money in a different currency, the amount has to be converted at some point – by your bank, a bank in between or the recipient’s bank.

Who does the conversion has an effect on how much arrives. Often it is cheaper if you send SGD directly through a transfer service with a good rate. Rates for SGD move during the day.

Bank or transfer service for Singapore?

When you send money to Singapore with your bank, the fee you see is only part of the cost. Besides the fee, intermediary banks may take a cut and, if currencies are converted, the bank usually uses a rate below the actual market rate.

The real cost is often in the rate, not in the fee: banks convert at a rate with a margin built in. Check the bank’s rate against the mid-market rate, the midpoint you see on financial news sites; the gap is what conversion costs you.

Specialised transfer providers frequently offer a rate near the mid-market rate. GoldexPay lists transfer services side by side so you can see what actually arrives in Singapore.

Recognising a SWIFT code from Singapore

A SWIFT code is either 8 or 11 characters long. The first four letters stand for the bank, the fifth and sixth characters form the country code and characters seven and eight give the location.

No matter which bank, every code from Singapore have the same country code in positions five and six. If the country letters do not match Singapore, you are looking at a bank somewhere else.

The long version ends in a branch code. Use a branch code only when the recipient explicitly gives you one; otherwise the head office code is the safe choice.

Why a transfer to Singapore needs a SWIFT code

For Singapore you will usually need the BIC, because the country is outside the SEPA area. Without it, most banks will not send the transfer at all.

Not every country uses the IBAN; in that case the local account number is used instead. The receiving bank usually has instructions for payments from abroad, and it is worth following them to the letter. Before it arrives, a payment can go through intermediary banks that charge for their part.

When does money sent to Singapore arrive?

An international transfer to Singapore usually needs anywhere from one to several business days – it depends on currency, route and the banks in between. Payments made late in the day or just before weekends and holidays usually go out a business day later.

Many banks use SWIFT gpi for faster and traceable payments. Each gpi transfer carries a unique reference, the UETR. Money transfer services usually show a status online so you can follow the payment.
