The way a SWIFT/BIC code from Uzbekistan is built up
A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:
- HPCJ Bank code
- 4 letters that identify the bank.
- UZ Country code
- 2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
- 22 Location code
- 2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
- XXX Branch code
- 3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.
Finding a SWIFT code in Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan our database holds 65 SWIFT/BIC codes from 34 financial institutions. Every code identifies an institution or a specific branch or department and tells other banks where an international payment should go.
Choose the bank from the list to see the head office code and any branch codes. Further down we explain how a code from Uzbekistan is put together, how to send money there at a fair price and how to check a code before you pay.
Joint-Stock Commercial Bank Turonbank and its SWIFT codes
In our directory, Joint-Stock Commercial Bank Turonbank holds the largest number of SWIFT/BIC codes of all banks in Uzbekistan. The head office uses TUROUZ22XXX – the code most transfers need.
The number of codes says more about how it registers branches and services than about its size. Unless a branch code is given, the head office code TUROUZ22XXX works for transfers to this bank.
Check the code before you pay
The most reliable place for the correct BIC is paperwork issued by the bank. An incorrect BIC may lead to delays, a returned payment or extra fees – compare it with the code in our list.
We gather bank codes using public sources and check them regularly. Banks reorganise, change names and retire codes. Treat this list as a starting point rather than the last word. GoldexPay is not a bank.
Scammers regularly use payment requests carrying changed bank details. A valid BIC tells you nothing about whether a request is genuine – scammers use the codes of real banks.
What the letters in a Uzbekistan BIC mean
A SWIFT code is either 8 or 11 characters long and follows a fixed pattern. It starts with a four-letter bank code, followed by a two-letter country code and two characters for the location.
No matter which bank, every code from Uzbekistan have the same country code in positions five and six. Codes with a different country code belong to a bank abroad – a quick way to catch mistakes.
The optional last three characters stand for a specific branch; XXX means the head office. For most transfers the head office code is fine.
What a sender needs to pay you in Uzbekistan
If you expect a payment from another country in Uzbekistan, send the payer a complete set of details. That means: your full name as your bank knows it, your IBAN or account number, the SWIFT/BIC code of your bank and sometimes your address.
The code of your bank is in our list. You can add your bank’s name and city as well because some forms have separate fields for it.
Expect that the incoming amount is below the amount on the sender’s receipt. Intermediary banks may deduct a fee, and when currencies differ, a markup on the rate applies. On invoices, agree who bears the costs to avoid a shortfall.
SWIFT transfers to Uzbekistan
To pay into Uzbekistan you almost always need a SWIFT/BIC code – Uzbekistan is not a SEPA country. Without it, most banks will not process the payment.
Not every country uses the IBAN; in that case the local account number is used instead. The recipient’s bank usually provides instructions for payments from abroad. SWIFT payments can pass through correspondent banks and fees can be taken along the way.
What a transfer to Uzbekistan really costs
An international bank payment to Uzbekistan often costs more than the fee suggests. There is the transfer fee, possibly charges from intermediary banks and, above all, the exchange rate markup when currencies differ.
That exchange rate margin is often the biggest part of the cost because it is hidden in the rate. An easy check: put the rate you get next to the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
Specialist money transfer services often offer rates closer to the mid-market rate with clearer fees. Before you send money to Uzbekistan, take a minute to compare what arrives on GoldexPay rather than accepting the first rate you see.
When does money sent to Uzbekistan arrive?
How quickly a payment reaches Uzbekistan is determined by a few things: the currency, the number of banks in between, cut-off times and time zones. Payments made after the cut-off time or on a weekend or public holiday often start the next business day.
Many banks use SWIFT gpi, which lets them follow a payment from bank to bank. Every gpi transfer carries a unique reference, the UETR that banks can use to see where the money is. Specialist transfer services often show tracking online so you can follow the payment.
