BTC to AUD explained
This page tracks the rate for Bitcoin (BTC) and Australian Dollar (AUD) and compares it with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. As of October 30, 2026, one BTC is worth 109,424.16 AUD, while a single AUD equals 0.0000091387 BTC.
The figure at the top is the mid-market rate. It sits exactly halfway between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as the cleanest reference you can get: nobody earns anything on it directly, so you rarely get it as a private customer.
The amount that lands in the other account is shaped by two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and list practical steps to get closer to the mid-market rate when you change BTC into AUD.
How providers price BTC to AUD
The majority of services stay away from the mid-market rate as such. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and earn on the difference. This is known as the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 BTC never reach the recipient.
Besides the hidden margin, many providers add a visible fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. With international bank payments other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.
Take a close look at anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is the total amount that arrives in AUD for an identical BTC amount, which is how the table above is sorted.
Getting the most AUD for your BTC
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive if the rate is poor. The fairest figure to compare is the AUD amount after every cost, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.
Timing can also matter. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. For transfers that can wait, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
A worked example with 0.0100 BTC
Take a conversion of 0.0100 BTC. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (109,424.16), you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the AUD side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Looking at all 3 providers we track, Kraken gave the best result, with 1,089.32 AUD in the end. The gap between 1,089.32 AUD and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.
Bear in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above to see the ranking that applies to you.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Only use providers that are regulated. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Verify every detail of the recipient. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
Why we compare total cost
We start from the live mid-market rate for BTC/AUD. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, to calculate what actually arrives in AUD. The comparison covers 3 providers, ranked from most to least received.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, because their rate can move between our updates.
GoldexPay is independent. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most AUD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
Bitcoin against Australian Dollar: the last twelve months
Across the last year, the price of BTC in AUD shows a change of -34.99%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 168,848.73 AUD for one BTC, and the bottom of the range was 84,966.18. Today’s rate of 109,424.16 sits somewhere inside that range.
That range between high and low shows how much the rate can move in practice. On a large conversion, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.
Buying or selling crypto: BTC to AUD
With crypto, the price you pay depends heavily on where you trade. On a trading platform, you pay the difference between bid and ask, plus a trading fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price which hides a wider spread.
When you move crypto to or from your own wallet, you pay a network or withdrawal fee. That fee does not depend on the amount, so for small amounts it can be a large share. Always check which network a platform uses: mistakes here are rarely reversible.
The price of a crypto asset can swing hard in a short time. Quoted prices tend to expire quickly, and big orders can fill at a worse price than shown. The rate on this page is a reference point, not a guaranteed price.
Think about custody as well. Coins kept on an exchange are held by that exchange, while in your own wallet you are fully responsible for the keys. Check that a platform is registered or licensed with a financial regulator where you live.
