The CAD/EUR exchange rate explained
This page tracks the rate for Canadian Dollar (CAD) and Euro (EUR), together with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. On October 30, 2026, 1 CAD buys 0.640631 EUR, and 1 EUR equals 1.5610 CAD.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is the midpoint between what wholesale traders pay for CAD and what they ask for it. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, and that is why you rarely get it as a private customer.
What ends up on the EUR side comes down to two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, look at what a conversion costs in practice and share simple habits to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting CAD to EUR.
Delivery times and routes for EUR transfers
A traditional bank sends your payment via the SWIFT system. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, and each can take a fee. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.
Specialised transfer services often work differently. They have local accounts on both sides, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.
Speed is not down to the provider alone: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. A first transfer can take longer while identity checks are done. Upload your documents early if timing is tight.
How providers price CAD to EUR
Nearly every bank and app stay away from the rate of 0.640631 itself. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and earn on the difference. This is known as the markup. A markup of 2%, for example, means that for every 100 CAD you convert, about 2 CAD worth disappears before the money arrives.
On top of the margin, most banks ask for a separate fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad other banks along the route may take their own cut, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.
Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is the total amount that arrives in EUR for an identical CAD amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
Safety checks before you convert CAD to EUR
Make sure the provider is licensed. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
How we rank providers for CAD to EUR
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 0.640631. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much EUR the recipient would end up with. In total 8 providers are included, so you can see the differences at a glance.
The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, since markets keep moving, especially when markets are busy.
We are not owned by any provider. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
How to get a better CAD to EUR rate
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A small fee on its own says little if the rate is poor. The fairest figure to compare is the EUR amount after every cost, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Choose the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. For transfers that can wait, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once CAD/EUR reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
A worked example with 1,000.00 CAD
Take a transfer of 1,000.00 CAD. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.640631), that marks the theoretical maximum of what is possible on the EUR side. No service pays out that exact figure, because margins and fees come off first.
Looking at all 8 providers we track, Revolut gave the best result: the recipient gets 637.43 EUR after all costs. The gap between 637.43 EUR and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.
Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CAD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Enter your own amount in the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.
Canadian Dollar against Euro: the last twelve months
Over the past twelve months, the price of CAD in EUR moved by +3.72%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 0.641709 EUR per CAD, and the low point came in at 0.612292. Today’s rate of 0.640631 can be measured against those two levels.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. On a large conversion, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, sometimes more than the choice of provider.
Rates are pushed around by central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
CAD and EUR around the world
Canadian Dollar is the money you pay with in Canada. Euro is the official currency of Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy. This matters when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.
The reasons for changing CAD into EUR vary: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. What suits one case may not suit another: a one-off large payment calls for the best rate, whereas frequent smaller payments are more sensitive to fixed fees.
Payout methods vary from country to country. Some recipients expect a bank account number with a local bank code, others an IBAN and in certain countries cash pickup or mobile money is common. Ask the recipient for the exact details in advance.
