Norwegian Krone to Hong Kong Dollar explained
This page brings together the price relationship between Norwegian Krone (NOK) and Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) and compares it with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. At the latest update on October 31, 2026, one NOK is worth 0.850255 HKD, while one HKD is worth 1.1761 NOK.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy NOK and the price at which they sell it. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so you rarely get it as a private customer.
The amount that lands in the other account is shaped by two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, show how they add up on a real amount and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when you swap Norwegian Krone for Hong Kong Dollar.
Choosing a route to send HKD
A traditional bank sends your payment over the SWIFT network. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, sometimes taking a fee at each step. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.
Specialised transfer services often work differently. They have local accounts on both sides, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. That is often faster and cheaper, with the final HKD amount fixed upfront.
Delivery time depends on several factors: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. New customers sometimes wait a little longer while identity checks are done. Upload your documents early if the money has to arrive on a set date.
Where Norwegian Krone and Hong Kong Dollar are used
Norwegian Krone is used in Norway. Hong Kong Dollar is used in Hong Kong SAR China. This matters when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.
There are plenty of everyday reasons to convert NOK to HKD: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. Each situation asks for something different: a one-off large payment benefits most from a sharp rate, while frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.
The way money is paid out also differs per country. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another, and in some places mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
Staying safe with bigger NOK to HKD transfers
Only use providers that are regulated. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
10,000.00 NOK to HKD, step by step
Consider an amount of 10,000.00 NOK. Using the reference rate of 0.850255, you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the HKD side. No service pays out that exact figure, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Looking at all 9 providers we track, Wise delivered the most and paid out 8,460.76 HKD in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.
Note that the cheapest provider for 10,000.00 NOK is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above for a ranking that fits your situation.
How to get a better NOK to HKD rate
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A small fee on its own says little if the rate is poor. The number that matters is how much HKD arrives for your NOK, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a HKD country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing plays a role too. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It saves you from checking the rate every day, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
How providers price NOK to HKD
Most providers do not convert at the rate of 0.850255 itself. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. People call this the markup. A markup of 2%, for example, means that you lose roughly 2 NOK on every 100 NOK, without it ever appearing as a fee.
On top of the margin, a lot of services ask for a separate fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or both at once. With international bank payments other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.
Be wary of services that advertise free transfers. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The only fair way to compare is the final HKD figure for exactly the same sum, which is how the table above is sorted.
How NOK/HKD moved over the past year
Compared with a year ago, the NOK/HKD rate shows a change of +10.30%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 0.853668 HKD for one NOK, while the bottom of the range was 0.758638. At 0.850255, the rate today is easy to place within that band.
The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. When you convert a substantial sum, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
Rates are pushed around by central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If timing matters to you, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
How our NOK/HKD comparison works
We start from the live mid-market rate for NOK/HKD. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, which gives the amount the recipient receives. The comparison covers 9 providers, placed side by side.
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.
GoldexPay is independent. Some of the links are affiliate links. They have no influence on the order: providers are sorted purely by how much HKD the recipient gets.
