New Zealand Dollar to Swedish Krona explained

The page you are reading brings together the price relationship between New Zealand Dollar (NZD) and Swedish Krona (SEK), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 31, 2026, 1 NZD equals 5.5425 SEK, and one SEK comes to 0.180425 NZD.

That headline number is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is the midpoint between what wholesale traders pay for NZD and what they ask for it. It works as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, which is exactly why you rarely get it as a private customer.

What ends up on the SEK side depends on two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, show how they add up on a real amount and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when converting NZD to SEK.

The NZD/SEK rate over twelve months

Over the past twelve months, the exchange rate shows a change of +2.50%. In that period the rate peaked at 5.6713 SEK per NZD, and the bottom of the range was 5.2799. At 5.5425, the rate today can be measured against those two levels.

The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. For a bigger amount, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

The rate reflects news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you are waiting for a particular level, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

Bank transfer or money transfer service for SEK?

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment over the SWIFT network. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.

Dedicated providers take another route. They keep money in accounts in both regions, so your NZD stays in the NZD system and the recipient is paid in SEK from a local account. That is often faster and cheaper, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.

Delivery time depends on several factors: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. New customers sometimes wait a little longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Get verified before you need to send if the money has to arrive on a set date.

Why we compare total cost

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, which gives the amount the recipient receives. The comparison covers 9 providers, placed side by side.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, since markets keep moving.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: providers are sorted purely by how much SEK the recipient gets.

Where the cost of converting NZD to SEK hides

Most providers do not convert at the mid-market rate as such. Instead they shift the rate in their own favour and earn on the difference. That gap is called the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that for every 100 NZD you convert, about 2 NZD worth disappears before the money arrives.

On top of the margin, a lot of services charge an explicit fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a percentage of the amount or both at once. With international bank payments other banks along the route may take their own cut, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Look twice at anything sold as commission-free. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The only fair way to compare is the total amount that arrives in SEK for exactly the same sum, which is how the table above is sorted.

2,000.00 NZD to SEK, step by step

Consider an amount of 2,000.00 NZD. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (5.5425), that marks the theoretical maximum of what the recipient could get. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Across the 9 providers in our comparison, Wise gave the best result: the recipient gets 11,030.65 SEK in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.

Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 2,000.00 NZD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above for a ranking that fits your situation.

Paying less when you change NZD into SEK

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A small fee on its own says little if the rate is poor. The fairest figure to compare is the SEK amount after every cost, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a SEK country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.

Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. If you are not in a hurry, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once NZD/SEK reaches a level you choose. That avoids guessing, though the target may never be reached.

The payment method matters as well. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

Sending a larger amount from NZD to SEK

Make sure the provider is licensed. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

For large amounts, expect extra checks. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

Where New Zealand Dollar and Swedish Krona are used

New Zealand Dollar is the legal tender in New Zealand. Swedish Krona is the official currency of Sweden. This matters for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.

People convert NZD to SEK for many reasons: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. Not every situation needs the same solution: a one-off large payment calls for the best rate, whereas frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.

Each country has its own payment habits. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another and in certain countries mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
