Turkish Lira to Canadian Dollar: rate, costs and context

This page brings together the exchange rate between Turkish Lira (TRY) and Canadian Dollar (CAD) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. As of October 30, 2026, 1 TRY equals 0.027972 CAD, while one CAD equals 35.7504 TRY.

The figure at the top is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy TRY and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, so consumers almost never receive it in full.

The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two separate costs: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Further down we explain how those costs work, show how they add up on a real amount and list practical steps to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting TRY to CAD.

Where you pay with TRY and CAD

Turkish Lira is the legal tender in Türkiye. Canadian Dollar is the official currency of Canada. That is useful to know if you travel, shop online abroad or support someone in another country.

People convert TRY to CAD for many reasons: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. Not every situation needs the same solution: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, while regular small amounts are more sensitive to fixed fees.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet and in certain countries mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.

Exchange rate markup and fees on TRY/CAD

Most providers will not give you the mid-market rate as such. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. That gap is called the spread. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 TRY never reach the recipient.

Besides the hidden margin, a lot of services ask for a separate fee. That can be a flat charge per payment, a percentage of the amount or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is how much CAD the recipient ends up with for an identical TRY amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.

Choosing a route to send CAD

Your regular bank usually sends the money over the SWIFT network. The money can pass through one or more correspondent banks, each of which can deduct a charge. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.

Dedicated providers take another route. They have local accounts on both sides, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. This usually cuts both time and cost, with the final CAD amount fixed upfront.

How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. New customers sometimes wait a little longer as the provider completes its checks. Get verified before you need to send when a deadline is involved.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Check names and account details twice. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.

How our TRY/CAD comparison works

We start from the live mid-market rate for TRY/CAD. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, which gives the amount the recipient receives. In total 9 providers are included, so you can see the differences at a glance.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates.

We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links. The order is never affected by them: providers are sorted purely by how much CAD the recipient gets.

A worked example with 50,000.00 TRY

Take an amount of 50,000.00 TRY. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.027972), you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in CAD. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Looking at all 9 providers we track, Wise delivered the most, with 1,391.66 CAD at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 50,000.00 TRY is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.

Turkish Lira against Canadian Dollar: the last twelve months

Across the last year, the exchange rate moved by -16.19%. Within those twelve months the highest level was 0.033548 CAD for one TRY, while the lowest was 0.027972. At 0.027972, the rate today can be measured against those two levels.

The distance between the high and the low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. For a bigger amount, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

How to get a better TRY to CAD rate

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing if the rate is poor. The number that matters is the amount received, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a CAD country, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.

Timing plays a role too. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. For transfers that can wait, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.
