How a SWIFT/BIC code from Cambodia is structured

A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:

ACLB Bank code
4 letters that identify the bank.
KH Country code
2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
PP Location code
2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
XXX Branch code
3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.

Finding a SWIFT code in Cambodia

Here you will find codes for 38 institutions in Cambodia – 51 codes altogether. You need such a code mainly for payments across borders and for payments in a foreign currency.

Search for the bank you need in the list and click through for all codes we have. The rest of this page covers the structure of the codes, what transfers cost and the checks worth doing before you send money.

About our data and how to check a code

The most reliable place for the correct BIC remains a document from the bank itself, such as a statement or the account page in online banking. A wrong code may lead to a delay, a payment being sent back or extra fees.

We gather SWIFT/BIC codes from public sources and update them regularly. Institutions reorganise, close branches and retire codes. Treat our data as a reference, not as the final word: the bank details from the recipient come first. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site.

Be wary of payment requests containing a new account. Before paying, confirm changed details by phone, using a number you already had.

SWIFT transfers to Cambodia

Because Cambodia does not belong to SEPA, an international payment is usually sent through SWIFT. That means you always need the SWIFT/BIC code of the receiving bank.

Depending on the country, accounts are identified by a local account number rather than an IBAN and sometimes a local routing or branch code. The recipient’s bank usually provides a list of required details for incoming international payments – follow them exactly. On the way to Cambodia, a transfer can go through intermediary banks.

Sending money to Cambodia for less

A bank transfer to Cambodia can cost rather more than the fee suggests. There is a transfer fee, possibly charges from intermediary banks along the way and, most importantly, the exchange rate markup if the money is converted.

The real cost is often in the rate, not in the fee – the bank builds a margin into its rate. An easy check: put the rate you get next to the mid-market rate and look at the difference.

For many currency pairs, a specialist provider is cheaper than a traditional bank transfer. Before your next transfer to Cambodia, take a minute comparing the total cost via GoldexPay.

What the letters in a Cambodia BIC mean

Every SWIFT/BIC code consists of eight or eleven characters in a fixed order. First comes four letters for the bank, then a two-letter country code and two characters for the location.

You can recognise a bank code from Cambodia from letters five and six. When the country letters do not match Cambodia, you are looking at a bank in another country – worth double-checking.

When a code ends in XXX, it refers to the main office and the short version works just as well. Choose a branch code only if the recipient’s bank asks for it – otherwise stick with the head office.

Tracking a payment to Cambodia

A SWIFT payment to Cambodia usually takes anywhere from one to several business days – it depends on currency, route and the banks in between. Payments made after the cut-off time or on a weekend or public holiday usually start a business day later.

Many banks are connected to SWIFT gpi, which lets them follow a payment from bank to bank. Each gpi transfer carries a unique transaction reference, the UETR that banks can use to see where the money is. Save the payment confirmation until the money has arrived; a bank needs it to start a trace.

Getting paid from abroad into an account in Cambodia

A sender in another country will ask for a few details about your account, and missing ones are a common cause of delays. In practice that means: your name as your bank knows it, your account number or IBAN, the BIC of your bank and usually your postal address.

Your bank’s code is in the list on this page. It helps to add the name and city of your bank as well.

The amount you receive is often lower than what was sent. Fees for incoming transfers differ from bank to bank – your bank’s price list tells you what applies. Agree with the sender who covers the fees, especially for larger amounts.
