How the Natixis SWIFT/BIC works
A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters. Each part has a fixed meaning:
- NATX Bank code
- 4 letters that identify the bank.
- FR Country code
- 2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
- PP Location code
- 2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
- XXX Branch code
- 3 characters for a specific branch. XXX means the head office.
SWIFT/BIC code of Natixis
The short code NATXFRPP and the full code NATXFRPPXXX refer to the same bank: Natixis, with its head office in Paris. A SWIFT code shows the banks handling a payment exactly which bank is meant to get the money. In practice you usually see the code on invoices from abroad, in payment forms and in the bank details that Natixis provides.
We wrote this page to help people who pays into an account at Natixis and wants to get the details right. A SWIFT code names an institution, never a single account; the IBAN or account number does that.
How up to date is this code?
Our SWIFT/BIC directory is based on publicly available sources. Even so, banks merge or change codes. Figures such as the number of codes come from our own dataset and are not confirmed by Natixis.
See the information on this page as a handy check. We are a comparison site for money transfers and not part of Natixis. If you notice a mistake, we welcome a message via the contact page.
Is NATXFRPP still correct? How to check
The best place to find the correct BIC is a document from the bank itself like a bank statement or the account page in online banking. When the code you were given differs from NATXFRPP or NATXFRPPXXX, do not guess – contact the recipient or Natixis.
With a wrong code, the transfer might be delayed, be returned or cost extra, and tracing it can take weeks. A mistake in the account number can be more serious, because the money may be credited to someone else; check it just as carefully.
An automatic check in your banking app merely tells you that the IBAN is valid. If your bank offers it, a payee name check before sending adds extra certainty. Sending a small amount first can be a sensible step for large sums, even if it costs an extra fee.
Sending money abroad from Natixis
The price of a payment abroad has more than one component, and the transfer fee is only the most visible one. Besides a fixed fee, correspondent or intermediary banks can take a cut, and if currencies are converted, the bank often uses a rate below the real market rate.
Most of the cost usually sits in the exchange rate, not in the fee: the bank converts at a rate that includes a margin. An easy check: put the rate you get next to the mid-market rate and work out the difference on your amount.
For many routes, a transfer service is cheaper than a traditional bank transfer – mostly thanks to the rate. Next time you send money, take a minute comparing what arrives via GoldexPay instead of going straight to your bank. Choosing a specialist does not mean closing your account at Natixis.
SEPA payments and the Natixis BIC
Because France is in the SEPA zone, a euro transfer to Natixis from within the SEPA area usually requires just an IBAN. Most banking apps do not require the BIC in that case or fill it in for you.
You will still need NATXFRPPXXX for payments in other currencies or transfers from countries outside SEPA. A few banks and apps still ask for the BIC; if so, fill in NATXFRPP.
Instant euro transfers are widely supported across SEPA. Fees for SEPA payments tend to be low, as long as no currency conversion is involved.
Why Natixis has an 8- and an 11-character code
The layout of every SWIFT code never changes: four characters for the institution, two for the country and a two-character location code, plus an optional branch code. The result is NATXFRPP, the short form of the code.
XXX at the end of NATXFRPPXXX is not a placeholder or an error: it indicates the head office of Natixis. Some banking apps ask for 11 characters, in which case you can add XXX behind NATXFRPP.
As a rule the code is typed in capitals. Copying the code is safer than retyping it, because one wrong letter changes the bank.
Paying into Natixis in EUR
France uses the Euro, code EUR. If you send money in a different currency it has to be converted at some point. Every conversion costs something, even when no fee is shown.
Who does the conversion affects how much arrives, since every bank sets its own rate. Check how much EUR the recipient gets via different services.
The rate for EUR changes throughout the day. For regular payments, small differences in the rate add up over a year.
How long does an international transfer to Natixis take?
There is no single answer for every transfer: some land the same day or the next, others take several business days. Transfers sent after the cut-off time or just before a weekend or public holiday usually go out the next business day. Extra checks on larger or unusual payments may also add some delay, regardless of the details.
When a payment takes longer than expected, ask the sending bank for the tracking status and the transaction reference. Save your transfer receipt until the money has arrived – you will need it for any trace request.
If a payment has not arrived after a few business days, the sender needs to start with their own bank. Request from the sender a copy of the payment confirmation with the date and reference; that often settles the question quickly.
Watch out for payment fraud
One of the most common tricks works like this: you receive a message claiming that a company now has a new bank account and asking you to pay there from now on. A real SWIFT code tells you nothing about whether the request is genuine: scammers use real codes of real banks.
Verify changed bank details via a separate channel like a call to a number from an earlier contract. Pressure or requests to keep it quiet tend to be red flags; a genuine business can wait for you to check. Acted too fast? Call the bank you paid from without delay and ask them to start a recall and report the fraud.
Fraud can also work the other way. Someone claims to have sent too much and wants you to refund the difference. A payment confirmation from the sender proves nothing.
Which of the 20 codes of Natixis do you need?
With 20 codes in 1 cities, Natixis is one of the banks that use separate codes for branches. The head office code is NATXFRPPXXX.
For most payments to a private or business account, the head office code NATXFRPPXXX is the right choice. When you receive a specific code, stick to it rather than swapping it for the head office code.
Unsure which code applies? Ask the recipient or the bank itself. Codes for branches are more likely to change than the head office code.
What to give a sender who pays you at Natixis
If you expect a payment from another country, give the sender everything they need in one go. What they need is: your name, IBAN or account number, NATXFRPPXXX or NATXFRPP and often your postal address.
Certain sending banks want the bank’s address in Paris; it does no harm to include it. Double-check the details before you send them.
What lands in your account is often lower than what was sent. Correspondent banks can take a fee and your own bank may charge for processing, and if the money is converted, a markup on the rate comes on top. For business payments, you can state who bears the costs.
