Bitget versus Bitvavo: what each one really costs

Choosing between Bitget and Bitvavo is rarely about the logo. The useful question is how much you actually keep once every fee and the exchange rate have been taken into account. That is the gap we measure here.

In our comparison, Bitget falls into the crypto exchange group and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Bitvavo belongs to crypto exchange and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. That alone tells you quite a lot about which jobs each one is built for.

Further down this page you can read how we work out the cost, what each one is good at and how to combine the two. Rates on this page are live, so the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.

Which one suits you?

For travel spending, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.

To send money to a bank account abroad, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.

For buying digital assets, check that crypto is supported at all, then compare spreads and withdrawal fees. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.

The short answer: Bitget comes out cheaper

Across 3 of the 3 comparisons that both providers offer, Bitget left you with more money once fees and exchange rate were counted. On price alone, that makes Bitget the default pick.

This does not rule out Bitvavo. Check the table above to see where Bitvavo comes out ahead, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, Bitvavo is simply the cheaper option for you.

Cost is one thing, not everything. Bitvavo may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. A few cents on a small transfer rarely beat that kind of convenience.

How fast the money arrives

Bitget lists its quickest option as Instant, while Bitvavo lists Instant. These are best cases, not guarantees. A first transfer often takes longer because of identity checks.

Speed often depends on how you pay. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.

Then there is everyday use: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.

Using both, or switching

You do not have to pick just one. Plenty of users keep an account with both and choose per transfer. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.

For anything above everyday amounts, compare live quotes here first, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.

Before you close an account, make sure no balance or scheduled transfer is left behind and download your statements for your records.

Why the amount can change the winner

Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. Fixed fees hit small transfers hardest; percentage margins hit large ones hardest. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.

Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, something our standard scenarios do not always capture. Before a big transfer with Bitget or Bitvavo, read the current pricing on their site.

Fees vs exchange-rate margin

“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. Often the cost simply moves into the exchange rate, where it is harder to spot. A margin of a fraction of a percent sounds small, but it grows with every amount you convert.

That is why we always look at the total: fee plus margin. Bitget and Bitvavo may structure their pricing differently, one with a visible fee and a tight rate, the other with no fee and a wider spread. Only the amount that arrives tells you who is really cheaper.

Other costs can matter too: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

Our method

Every provider earns money in two ways: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.

Each conversion is checked with several sample amounts so the effect of fixed fees and percentages becomes visible. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.

GoldexPay is independent. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but they never change the order or the outcome. The numbers decide, not the commission.

Comparing two crypto exchanges

With two crypto exchanges, the cost is spread over several layers. There is the spread, the gap between the buy and sell price, which you pay on instant purchases. If you use the order book, maker and taker fees replace the spread as the main cost.

Then there are deposit and withdrawal costs. Bank transfers are often a cheap way in, while card deposits usually cost more. Withdrawing coins to your own wallet comes with a network or withdrawal fee that varies per asset.

And then there is the question of who holds your coins. As long as your crypto sits on an exchange, the exchange holds the keys. Many users move larger holdings to a wallet they control, which makes the withdrawal fee part of the real cost.

Like for like: Bitget and Bitvavo

Both Bitget and Bitvavo sit in the crypto exchange category, so they compete for the same customers. That makes the differences smaller, but they still matter.

Look at coverage first: supported currencies, countries and payment methods. On paper, Bitget supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies and Bitvavo supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. A small gap in coverage can matter more than a small price difference.

After that, it comes down to price on your specific route, plus limits, verification and the quality of the app. Since both play in the same league, switching later is usually easy.

Safety checks before you sign up

Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.

With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.

With crypto platforms, look a little further: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
