The CAD/AED exchange rate: rate, costs and context

This page follows the exchange rate between Canadian Dollar (CAD) and United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED), together with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. On October 31, 2026, one CAD is worth 2.6271 AED, and 1 AED comes to 0.380650 CAD.

The rate shown above is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy CAD and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a fair reference point: nobody earns anything on it directly, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two things: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to lose less on the exchange when you change CAD into AED.

Delivery times and routes for AED transfers

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment via the SWIFT system. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, sometimes taking a fee at each step. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.

Many money transfer apps use a different model. They have local accounts on both sides, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, with the final AED amount fixed upfront.

Speed is not down to the provider alone: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. The very first payment may be slower as the provider completes its checks. Finish verification in advance if timing is tight.

How we rank providers for CAD to AED

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 2.6271. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, to calculate what actually arrives in AED. We do this for 8 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, since markets keep moving.

We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most AED comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

Nearly every bank and app stay away from the rate of 2.6271 as such. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and earn on the difference. This is known as the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 CAD never reach the recipient.

Besides the hidden margin, a lot of services charge an explicit fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. What really counts is how much AED the recipient ends up with for an identical CAD amount, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Verify every detail of the recipient. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

Where Canadian Dollar and United Arab Emirates Dirham are used

Canadian Dollar is the money you pay with in Canada. United Arab Emirates Dirham is what people pay with in United Arab Emirates. That is useful to know if you travel, shop online abroad or support someone in another country.

People convert CAD to AED for many reasons: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. Not every situation needs the same solution: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, whereas frequent smaller payments are more sensitive to fixed fees.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another and in certain countries cash pickup or mobile money is common. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.

How to get a better CAD to AED rate

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive if the rate is poor. The number that matters is the AED amount after every cost, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a AED country, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.

Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, but the target may never be reached.

Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer reduces what you pay in flat fees.

How CAD/AED moved over the past year

Over the past twelve months, the CAD/AED rate has changed by -2.29%. In that period the top of the range was 2.7066 AED per CAD, and the low point came in at 2.5743. Today’s rate of 2.6271 is easy to place within that band.

The distance between the high and the low shows how much the rate can move in practice. On a large conversion, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, even when the fee stays the same.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

A worked example with 1,000.00 CAD

Consider a conversion of 1,000.00 CAD. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (2.6271), that marks the theoretical maximum of what the recipient could get. No service pays out that exact figure, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Across the 8 providers in our comparison, Revolut gave the best result: the recipient gets 2,613.95 AED in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CAD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.
