CAD to CNY at a glance
The page you are reading follows the price relationship between Canadian Dollar (CAD) and Chinese Yuan (CNY) and sets it next to what real providers charge to convert one into the other. On October 31, 2026, one CAD is worth 4.7664 CNY, while 1 CNY comes to 0.209801 CAD.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Think of it as a fair reference point: nobody earns anything on it directly, which is exactly why consumers almost never receive it in full.
What ends up on the CNY side depends on two things: the margin a provider adds to that rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and list practical steps to lose less on the exchange when you change CAD into CNY.
Paying less when you change CAD into CNY
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A small fee on its own says little because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is how much CNY arrives for your CAD, and that already includes both margin and fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in CAD or in the local currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It saves you from checking the rate every day, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
Also check how you fund the transfer. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
One year of CAD to CNY
Over the past twelve months, the CAD/CNY rate moved by -6.03%. During that year the top of the range was 5.1376 CNY per CAD, while the lowest was 4.6927. At 4.7664, the rate today is easy to place within that band.
The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
Rates are pushed around by interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
Sample calculation for 1,000.00 CAD
Take an amount of 1,000.00 CAD. At the mid-market rate of 4.7664, that sum sets the ceiling for what is possible on the CNY side. No service pays out that exact figure, because margins and fees come off first.
Of the 8 providers we compared, Revolut came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 4,742.59 CNY in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Bear in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.
Where Canadian Dollar and Chinese Yuan are used
Canadian Dollar is used in Canada. Chinese Yuan is used in China. That is useful to know when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.
The reasons for changing CAD into CNY vary: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a single big transfer calls for the best rate, while regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.
The way money is paid out also differs per country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
Delivery times and routes for CNY transfers
Your regular bank usually sends the money through SWIFT. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.
Many money transfer apps use a different model. They keep money in accounts in both regions, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.
Delivery time depends on several factors: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. The very first payment may be slower as the provider completes its checks. Finish verification in advance if the money has to arrive on a set date.
Sending a larger amount from CAD to CNY
Make sure the provider is licensed. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds.
Check names and account details twice. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
How providers price CAD to CNY
Nearly every bank and app do not convert at the mid-market rate itself. They shift the rate in their own favour and pocket the gap. This is known as the spread. If the margin is 2%, then for every 100 CAD you convert, about 2 CAD worth disappears before the money arrives.
On top of the margin, a lot of services add a visible fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is the final CNY figure for an identical CAD amount, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
How we rank providers for CAD to CNY
Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in CNY. We do this for 8 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates.
GoldexPay is independent. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help fund our work. They have no influence on the order: the provider that delivers the most CNY comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
