CAD to ETH explained

This overview brings together the exchange rate between Canadian Dollar (CAD) and Ethereum (ETH) and sets it next to the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, 1 CAD equals 0.00032131 ETH, while 1 ETH is worth 3,112.22 CAD.

The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy CAD and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a fair reference point: nobody earns anything on it directly, and that is why you rarely get it as a private customer.

The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Further down we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when you swap Canadian Dollar for Ethereum.

Sample calculation for 1,000.00 CAD

Consider an amount of 1,000.00 CAD. At the mid-market rate of 0.00032131, you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in ETH. In reality every provider keeps something, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Of the 3 providers we compared, Kraken came out cheapest for this amount, with 0.3199 ETH after all costs. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CAD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above to see the ranking that applies to you.

How CAD/ETH moved over the past year

Across the last year, the CAD/ETH rate moved by +75.73%. In that period the rate peaked at 0.00045832 ETH per CAD, and the bottom of the range was 0.00018232. At 0.00032131, the rate today is easy to place within that band.

The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

Rates are pushed around by interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

About this comparison

We start from the live mid-market rate for CAD/ETH. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, and work out how much ETH the recipient would end up with. In total 3 providers are included, placed side by side.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, since markets keep moving.

GoldexPay is independent. We may earn a commission through some links. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most ETH comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Practical ways to save on CAD/ETH

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing if the rate is poor. What you want to know is how much ETH arrives for your CAD, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a ETH country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Choose the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing can also matter. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. When there is no deadline, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once CAD/ETH reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Check the provider’s licence first. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Verify through a channel you trust.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.

Crypto spreads, network fees and custody

Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On an exchange with an order book, there is a gap between the buy and sell price, the spread, on top of a maker or taker fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price that has the cost baked in.

If you withdraw coins to a wallet, a network fee applies. That fee does not depend on the amount, so it weighs more on small transactions. Always check which network a platform uses: mistakes here are rarely reversible.

Crypto prices can move sharply within minutes. Quoted prices tend to expire quickly, and big orders can fill at a worse price than shown. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.

Think about custody as well. Coins kept on an exchange are held by that exchange, whereas a personal wallet puts the responsibility, and the risk of losing access, on you. Check that a platform is registered or licensed with a financial regulator where you live.

What banks and apps really charge for CAD to ETH

Most providers will not give you the mid-market rate itself. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. This is known as the spread. A markup of 2%, for example, means that for every 100 CAD you convert, about 2 CAD worth disappears before the money arrives.

Next to that markup, a lot of services add a visible fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or a mix of both. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.

Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The reliable test is how much ETH the recipient ends up with for exactly the same sum, which is how the table above is sorted.
