The USD/ETH exchange rate: rate, costs and context
This page follows the exchange rate between US Dollar (USD) and Ethereum (ETH) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, 1 USD buys 0.00044891 ETH, and a single ETH is worth 2,227.60 USD.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of what wholesale traders pay for USD and what they ask for it. It works as a neutral benchmark: it contains no profit margin and no fees, which is exactly why consumers almost never receive it in full.
The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Further down we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when converting USD to ETH.
Recent movement in the USD/ETH rate
Over the past twelve months, the price of USD in ETH shows a change of +75.20%. During that year the rate peaked at 0.00063857 ETH for one USD, and the low point came in at 0.00025606. Today’s rate of 0.00044891 sits somewhere inside that range.
That range between high and low shows how much the rate can move in practice. For a bigger amount, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
Rates are pushed around by news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.
1,000.00 USD to ETH, step by step
Consider a transfer of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 0.00044891, that marks the theoretical maximum of what the recipient could get. No service pays out that exact figure, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Of the 17 providers we compared, Crypto.com delivered the most, with 0.4484 ETH in the end. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Note that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter for a ranking that fits your situation.
Paying less when you change USD into ETH
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A small fee on its own says little when the margin is high. The number that matters is how much ETH arrives for your USD, and that already includes both margin and fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, while a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Sending less often but in larger amounts means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
Crypto spreads, network fees and custody
Where you convert matters a lot with crypto. On an exchange with an order book, you pay the difference between bid and ask, plus a trading fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price that has the cost baked in.
Withdrawing crypto from a platform, there is a separate network charge. It is unrelated to how much you move, so for small amounts it can be a large share. Always check which network a platform uses: coins sent over the wrong network can be lost.
Crypto prices can move sharply within minutes. A quote is often only valid for a short moment, and big orders can fill at a worse price than shown. The rate on this page is a reference point, not a guaranteed price.
Also decide who holds the keys. On a platform, someone else manages the private keys, while in your own wallet you are fully responsible for the keys. Check that a platform is registered or licensed with a financial regulator where you live.
How providers price USD to ETH
Nearly every bank and app will not give you the mid-market rate as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and earn on the difference. People call this the spread. A markup of 2%, for example, means that you lose roughly 2 USD on every 100 USD, without it ever appearing as a fee.
Besides the hidden margin, a lot of services add a visible fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Take a close look at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. What really counts is how much ETH the recipient ends up with for an identical USD amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
Larger transfers: what to check first
Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
Why we compare total cost
We start from the live mid-market rate for USD/ETH. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, to calculate what actually arrives in ETH. The comparison covers 17 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. We may earn a commission through some links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most ETH comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
