The CHF/AED exchange rate: what you are looking at

The page you are reading follows the price relationship between Swiss Franc (CHF) and United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 31, 2026, 1 CHF buys 4.4565 AED, and a single AED equals 0.224389 CHF.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is calculated as the middle of what wholesale traders pay for CHF and what they ask for it. It works as the cleanest reference you can get: no fee or margin is built in, which is exactly why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What ends up on the AED side comes down to two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Further down we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and share simple habits to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting CHF to AED.

One year of CHF to AED

Over the past twelve months, the CHF/AED rate shows a change of -5.72%. In that period the highest level was 4.7857 AED for one CHF, and the bottom of the range was 4.3944. The current 4.4565 is easy to place within that band.

The spread between the year’s extremes puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.

Rates are pushed around by news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If timing matters to you, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.

Choosing a route to send AED

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment over the SWIFT network. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.

Dedicated providers take another route. They keep money in accounts in both regions, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. That is often faster and cheaper, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.

Delivery time depends on several factors: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. The very first payment may be slower because the provider has to verify your identity. Upload your documents early when a deadline is involved.

How providers price CHF to AED

Nearly every bank and app do not convert at the mid-market rate itself. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and keep the difference. People call this the exchange rate margin. If the margin is 2%, then about 2 out of every 100 CHF never reach the recipient.

On top of the margin, many providers ask for a separate fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Take a close look at anything sold as commission-free. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. What really counts is how much AED the recipient ends up with for the same amount of CHF, and that is the figure our table ranks on.

Where you pay with CHF and AED

Swiss Franc is the legal tender in Switzerland, Liechtenstein. United Arab Emirates Dirham is the official currency of United Arab Emirates. This matters when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.

The reasons for changing CHF into AED vary: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. Each situation asks for something different: a one-off large payment calls for the best rate, while frequent smaller payments are more sensitive to fixed fees.

Each country has its own payment habits. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Ask the recipient for the exact details in advance.

How to get a better CHF to AED rate

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. What you want to know is the AED amount after every cost, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a AED country, you may be asked whether to pay in CHF or in the local currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

About this comparison

We start from the live mid-market rate for CHF/AED. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, and work out how much AED the recipient would end up with. In total 9 providers are included, so you can see the differences at a glance.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, with October 31, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.

We are not owned by any provider. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: providers are sorted purely by how much AED the recipient gets.

Staying safe with bigger CHF to AED transfers

Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own and that offers protection if the company fails.

Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Verify through a channel you trust.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

What 1,000.00 CHF gets you in AED

Consider a conversion of 1,000.00 CHF. At the mid-market rate of 4.4565, that marks the theoretical maximum of what the recipient could get. In reality every provider keeps something, because margins and fees come off first.

Of the 9 providers we compared, Wise gave the best result: the recipient gets 4,434.83 AED in the end. The gap between 4,434.83 AED and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.

Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CHF is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above for a ranking that fits your situation.
