CHF to GBP: rate, costs and context
The page you are reading brings together the exchange rate between Swiss Franc (CHF) and British Pound (GBP) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. As of October 30, 2026, 1 CHF buys 0.906761 GBP, while a single GBP comes to 1.1028 CHF.
The rate shown above is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Treat it as a fair reference point: no fee or margin is built in, and that is why you rarely get it as a private customer.
The amount that lands in the other account comes down to two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the fee you see on the order screen. In the sections below we show how those costs are built up, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting CHF to GBP.
How providers price CHF to GBP
Most providers stay away from the mid-market rate itself. Instead they shift the rate in their own favour and keep the difference. This is known as the markup. If the margin is 2%, then for every 100 CHF you convert, about 2 CHF worth disappears before the money arrives.
Besides the hidden margin, many providers add a visible fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a percentage of the amount or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.
Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The only fair way to compare is how much GBP the recipient ends up with for an identical CHF amount, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
How GoldexPay compares CHF to GBP providers
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 0.906761. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, to calculate what actually arrives in GBP. We do this for 9 providers, ranked from most to least received.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most GBP comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
CHF and GBP around the world
Swiss Franc is the money you pay with in Switzerland, Liechtenstein. British Pound is the official currency of United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey. That is useful to know if you travel, shop online abroad or support someone in another country.
People convert CHF to GBP for many reasons: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a single big transfer calls for the best rate, while regular small amounts are more sensitive to fixed fees.
Payout methods vary from country to country. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another and in certain countries cash pickup or mobile money is common. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
A worked example with 1,000.00 CHF
Take a conversion of 1,000.00 CHF. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.906761), that sum sets the ceiling for what the recipient could get. No service pays out that exact figure, because margins and fees come off first.
Looking at all 9 providers we track, Wise delivered the most, with 902.34 GBP in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.
Keep in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.
Sending a larger amount from CHF to GBP
Check the provider’s licence first. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
SWIFT versus local payout for CHF to GBP
Your regular bank usually sends the money via the SWIFT system. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.
Dedicated providers take another route. They hold balances in both currencies, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. That is often faster and cheaper, with the final GBP amount fixed upfront.
How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. A first transfer can take longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Get verified before you need to send if the money has to arrive on a set date.
Tips for converting CHF to GBP
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. What you want to know is how much GBP arrives for your CHF, and that already includes both margin and fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in CHF or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once CHF/GBP reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, though the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer also cuts the impact of fixed fees.
How CHF/GBP moved over the past year
Across the last year, the exchange rate shows a change of -4.39%. In that period the rate peaked at 0.963220 GBP for one CHF, and the bottom of the range was 0.902602. The current 0.906761 is easy to place within that band.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
The rate reflects interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
