CHF to CNY: rate, costs and context

The page you are reading brings together the rate for Swiss Franc (CHF) and Chinese Yuan (CNY) and sets it next to the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, one CHF is worth 8.0853 CNY, and a single CNY is worth 0.123681 CHF.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy CHF and the price at which they sell it. Think of it as the cleanest reference you can get: no fee or margin is built in, which is exactly why consumers almost never receive it in full.

What ends up on the CNY side depends on two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. In the sections below we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to lose less on the exchange when you swap Swiss Franc for Chinese Yuan.

How our CHF/CNY comparison works

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 8.0853. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, and work out how much CNY the recipient would end up with. In total 9 providers are included, so you can see the differences at a glance.

The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some links on this page are affiliate links. The order is never affected by them: providers are sorted purely by how much CNY the recipient gets.

Example: converting 1,000.00 CHF

Consider a transfer of 1,000.00 CHF. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (8.0853), you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in CNY. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, because margins and fees come off first.

Of the 9 providers we compared, Wise came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 8,045.93 CNY after all costs. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Bear in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CHF is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter and check whether the order changes.

One year of CHF to CNY

Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate has changed by -8.68%. Within those twelve months the rate peaked at 9.0531 CNY per CHF, and the lowest was 8.0276. At 8.0853, the rate today can be measured against those two levels.

The spread between the year’s extremes puts the movement into real terms. On a large conversion, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

Exchange rates respond to interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If timing matters to you, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

How providers price CHF to CNY

The majority of services stay away from the rate of 8.0853 as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. That gap is called the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 CHF never reach the recipient.

On top of the margin, a lot of services ask for a separate fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. The only fair way to compare is how much CNY the recipient ends up with for an identical CHF amount, which is how the table above is sorted.

Sending a larger amount from CHF to CNY

Check the provider’s licence first. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds and that offers protection if the company fails.

Check names and account details twice. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

How CHF to CNY transfers travel

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment over the SWIFT network. The money can pass through one or more correspondent banks, and each can take a fee. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.

Dedicated providers take another route. They hold balances in both currencies, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.

Speed is not down to the provider alone: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. New customers sometimes wait a little longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Get verified before you need to send if the money has to arrive on a set date.

Getting the most CNY for your CHF

Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A small fee on its own says little when the margin is high. The fairest figure to compare is the amount received, which combines the markup and the fee.

At foreign tills and cash machines, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers means fixed charges hit you fewer times.

CHF and CNY around the world

Swiss Franc is used in Switzerland, Liechtenstein. Chinese Yuan is what people pay with in China. This matters for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.

People convert CHF to CNY for many reasons: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. Each situation asks for something different: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, while frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another and in certain countries payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
