The CHF/RON exchange rate at a glance

This page brings together the rate for Swiss Franc (CHF) and Romanian Leu (RON) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. As of October 30, 2026, one CHF is worth 5.8099 RON, and one RON comes to 0.172120 CHF.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy CHF and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: nobody earns anything on it directly, which is exactly why consumers almost never receive it in full.

What you actually receive depends on two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, show how they add up on a real amount and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when you swap Swiss Franc for Romanian Leu.

Delivery times and routes for RON transfers

A traditional bank sends your payment through SWIFT. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, each of which can deduct a charge. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.

Specialised transfer services often work differently. They keep money in accounts in both regions, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.

How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. A first transfer can take longer while identity checks are done. Get verified before you need to send if the money has to arrive on a set date.

How to get a better CHF to RON rate

Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A low headline fee proves nothing when the margin is high. What you want to know is how much RON arrives for your CHF, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.

When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in CHF or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.

Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

How CHF/RON moved over the past year

Compared with a year ago, the price of CHF in RON moved by +6.03%. In that period the rate peaked at 5.8099 RON for one CHF, while the lowest was 5.4211. The current 5.8099 sits somewhere inside that range.

That range between high and low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

Rates are pushed around by interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

Where Swiss Franc and Romanian Leu are used

Swiss Franc is used in Switzerland, Liechtenstein. Romanian Leu is what people pay with in Romania. That is useful to know if you travel, shop online abroad or support someone in another country.

People convert CHF to RON for many reasons: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. Not every situation needs the same solution: a one-off large payment benefits most from a sharp rate, whereas regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.

Each country has its own payment habits. Some recipients expect a bank account number with a local bank code, others an IBAN and in certain countries mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Check which details the provider needs before you start.

What 1,000.00 CHF gets you in RON

Take a transfer of 1,000.00 CHF. At the mid-market rate of 5.8099, that sum sets the ceiling for what any provider could deliver in RON. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Looking at all 9 providers we track, Wise came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 5,781.59 RON in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.

Bear in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.

How our CHF/RON comparison works

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, which gives the amount the recipient receives. In total 9 providers are included, ranked from most to least received.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.

We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links. The order is never affected by them: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.

How providers price CHF to RON

Nearly every bank and app will not give you the mid-market rate as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. People call this the markup. With a 2% markup, for instance, about 2 out of every 100 CHF never reach the recipient.

Next to that markup, most banks ask for a separate fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Take a close look at services that advertise free transfers. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is the total amount that arrives in RON for exactly the same sum, which is how the table above is sorted.

Sending a larger amount from CHF to RON

Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
