The ETH/AUD exchange rate: rate, costs and context

The page you are reading tracks the rate for Ethereum (ETH) and Australian Dollar (AUD) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. At the latest update on October 30, 2026, one ETH is worth 3,170.40 AUD, while one AUD equals 0.00031542 ETH.

The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It sits exactly halfway between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, so you rarely get it as a private customer.

What ends up on the AUD side comes down to two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and list practical steps to keep more of your money when you change ETH into AUD.

About this comparison

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 3,170.40. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much AUD the recipient would end up with. We do this for 3 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: providers are sorted purely by how much AUD the recipient gets.

Getting the most AUD for your ETH

Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is the amount received, and that already includes both margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a AUD country, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Watch the timing as well. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. For transfers that can wait, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Bundling smaller transfers reduces what you pay in flat fees.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

Nearly every bank and app will not give you the mid-market rate as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. This is known as the spread. A markup of 2%, for example, means that you lose roughly 2 ETH on every 100 ETH, without it ever appearing as a fee.

Besides the hidden margin, most banks ask for a separate fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.

Take a close look at anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The only fair way to compare is the final AUD figure for the same amount of ETH, which is how the table above is sorted.

Ethereum against Australian Dollar: the last twelve months

Across the last year, the exchange rate shows a change of -46.90%. During that year the top of the range was 5,970.24 AUD for one ETH, and the bottom of the range was 2,210.33. At 3,170.40, the rate today sits somewhere inside that range.

The distance between the high and the low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. On a large conversion, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

Buying or selling crypto: ETH to AUD

Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On a trading platform, there is a gap between the buy and sell price, the spread, on top of a maker or taker fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price with the margin already included.

When you move crypto to or from your own wallet, you pay a network or withdrawal fee. It is often a fixed amount regardless of the size of the transfer, so for small amounts it can be a large share. Make sure the sending and receiving side use the same network: mistakes here are rarely reversible.

The price of a crypto asset can swing hard in a short time. A quote is often only valid for a short moment, and on large orders the execution price can slip. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.

Custody is another point to consider. If you leave crypto on a platform, the platform controls it, whereas a personal wallet puts the responsibility, and the risk of losing access, on you. Check that a platform is registered or licensed with a financial regulator where you live.

0.5000 ETH to AUD, step by step

Let’s use a transfer of 0.5000 ETH. At the mid-market rate of 3,170.40, that sum sets the ceiling for what is possible on the AUD side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, because margins and fees come off first.

Of the 3 providers we compared, Kraken gave the best result, with 1,578.07 AUD in the end. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.

Note that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.

Before you send: security and large amounts

Check the provider’s licence first. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Verify every detail of the recipient. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Verify through a channel you trust.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
