The MXN/CAD exchange rate: rate, costs and context
This overview brings together the exchange rate between Mexican Peso (MXN) and Canadian Dollar (CAD), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 31, 2026, one MXN is worth 0.074125 CAD, while 1 CAD equals 13.4906 MXN.
The figure at the top is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is the midpoint between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
What you actually receive depends on two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Further down we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and share simple habits to get closer to the mid-market rate when you swap Mexican Peso for Canadian Dollar.
How our MXN/CAD comparison works
Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in CAD. The comparison covers 9 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. They have no influence on the order: the provider that delivers the most CAD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
Mid-market rate versus the rate you get
Most providers stay away from the mid-market rate itself. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. People call this the markup. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 MXN never reach the recipient.
Next to that markup, most banks charge an explicit fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Take a close look at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. The only fair way to compare is how much CAD the recipient ends up with for the same amount of MXN, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
Practical ways to save on MXN/CAD
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A low headline fee proves nothing when the margin is high. The fairest figure to compare is how much CAD arrives for your MXN, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, you may be asked whether to pay in MXN or in the local currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Always opt to pay in the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Watch the timing as well. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It saves you from checking the rate every day, though the target may never be reached.
Also check how you fund the transfer. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, and a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Bank transfer or money transfer service for CAD?
A traditional bank sends your payment through SWIFT. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.
Dedicated providers take another route. They have local accounts on both sides, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.
How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. New customers sometimes wait a little longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Upload your documents early if the money has to arrive on a set date.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.
Verify every detail of the recipient. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
MXN and CAD around the world
Mexican Peso is the currency of Mexico. Canadian Dollar is used in Canada. That is useful to know when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.
The reasons for changing MXN into CAD vary: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, whereas regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.
Payout methods vary from country to country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
Example: converting 20,000.00 MXN
Let’s use a transfer of 20,000.00 MXN. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.074125), that sum sets the ceiling for what is possible on the CAD side. No service pays out that exact figure, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.
Across the 9 providers in our comparison, Wise delivered the most, with 1,475.21 CAD after all costs. The gap between 1,475.21 CAD and the theoretical maximum is what the conversion actually cost you.
Keep in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above to see the ranking that applies to you.
How MXN/CAD moved over the past year
Compared with a year ago, the price of MXN in CAD has changed by -2.02%. During that year the highest level was 0.081862 CAD per MXN, and the lowest was 0.074125. The current 0.074125 sits somewhere inside that range.
The spread between the year’s extremes puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
