Converting Platinum into Euro explained

The page you are reading follows the price relationship between Platinum (XPT) and Euro (EUR), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, 1 XPT equals 1,283.84 EUR, while 1 EUR comes to 0.00077892 XPT.

That headline number is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Treat it as a fair reference point: no fee or margin is built in, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What ends up on the EUR side is shaped by two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, put them side by side and list practical steps to keep more of your money when converting XPT to EUR.

Troy ounces, spot price and premiums

Precious metals are quoted per troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams. In currency notation, gold is XAU, silver XAG, platinum XPT and palladium XPD, which is why they appear here like any other currency. The rate shown is the price of one troy ounce.

The rate is based on the spot price: the price professionals pay for large quantities. Coins and small bars cost more than spot, because of manufacturing and dealer costs. When you sell, dealers usually pay somewhat below spot.

You can own precious metals in several forms. Storing metal at home brings its own risks and costs. Vault storage through a dealer charges an annual fee but keeps the metal in your name. Exchange-traded products give exposure to the price, not always to the metal itself.

Check how tax applies as well. In the EU, investment gold is generally exempt from VAT, while silver usually is not. The information here is meant as background, not as advice.

The XPT/EUR rate over twelve months

Compared with a year ago, the XPT/EUR rate has changed by -26.04%. During that year the rate peaked at 2,040.16 EUR per XPT, and the low point came in at 1,283.84. Today’s rate of 1,283.84 sits somewhere inside that range.

The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

Exchange rates respond to central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If timing matters to you, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Only use providers that are regulated. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.

Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.

0.5000 XPT to EUR, step by step

Take an amount of 0.5000 XPT. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (1,283.84), that sum sets the ceiling for what the recipient could get. In reality every provider keeps something, because margins and fees come off first.

Of the 3 providers we compared, BullionVault came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 638.07 EUR after all costs. The gap between 638.07 EUR and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.

Keep in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above for a ranking that fits your situation.

How providers price XPT to EUR

Nearly every bank and app will not give you the rate of 1,283.84 as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. That gap is called the exchange rate margin. With a 2% markup, for instance, you lose roughly 2 XPT on every 100 XPT, without it ever appearing as a fee.

Besides the hidden margin, a lot of services charge an explicit fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. With international bank payments extra deductions can follow, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is how much EUR the recipient ends up with for exactly the same sum, which is how the table above is sorted.

Getting the most EUR for your XPT

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A small fee on its own says little because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is the amount received, and that already includes both margin and fee.

At foreign tills and cash machines, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.

Watch the timing as well. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. That avoids guessing, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

About this comparison

We start from the live mid-market rate for XPT/EUR. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in EUR. The comparison covers 3 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, since markets keep moving, especially when markets are busy.

GoldexPay is independent. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most EUR comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
