BLOX vs Gate: which one leaves you with more

Choosing between BLOX and Gate comes down to more than the brand name. The real question is how much of your money arrives once the fee and the rate markup are counted. This page puts a number on that.

In our database, BLOX falls into the crypto exchange category and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Gate belongs to crypto exchange and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. Those two labels say something about which jobs each one is built for.

Below the calculator we walk through how we work out the cost, what each one is good at and which one fits which situation. Rates on this page are live, so today’s result is not set in stone.

Delivery time and ease of use

The fastest delivery we have on record for BLOX is Instant; for Gate it is Instant. That is the quickest route, not the usual one for every transfer. A first transfer often takes longer because of identity checks.

Speed often depends on how you pay. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.

Then there is everyday use: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Try the app before you move a large amount.

Same category, different details

BLOX and Gate are both in our crypto exchange category, so they compete for the same customers. They solve the same problem, so price, speed and coverage decide.

Look at coverage first: the list of supported currencies or coins and where you can use them. BLOX covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Gate covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. If one of them does not cover your currency, the choice is made for you.

Then compare price on the route you actually use, along with practical matters such as the app and customer service. If one disappoints, the other is an easy alternative.

Using both, or switching

Using two providers side by side is common. A second account gives you a backup and an easy price check. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.

Before every larger transfer, compare live quotes here first, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.

When you move away from one provider, withdraw or spend your remaining balance first and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.

Why “zero fee” is not always cheap

“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. On a large amount, a small margin can add up to more than a fixed fee would.

That is why we always look at the total: fee plus margin. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. What counts is what lands in the account at the end.

Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

How we calculate the cost

The cost of a conversion has two parts: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.

We run this for several sample amounts, from small to large, because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.

GoldexPay is independent. Some links on the site are affiliate links, but they never change the order or the outcome. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.

BLOX or Gate: which fits your situation?

When you travel, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. Whichever of the two offers a usable card for your destination has a head start.

To send money to a bank account abroad, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.

When buying crypto, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.

Small amounts vs large amounts

Who comes out ahead can flip as the amount grows. On small sums the fixed part of the price dominates, on large sums the percentage does. Our scenario table reflects this by testing several amounts.

Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. For any large transfer, confirm the final quote in the app before you approve it.

What to compare between two exchanges

Crypto exchanges price their service in several layers. First the spread: the difference between buy and sell price on a simple purchase. If you use the order book, maker and taker fees replace the spread as the main cost.

Moving money in and out also costs something. A bank transfer is usually the cheapest way to fund an account; a card is faster but pricier. When you withdraw crypto, a network fee applies, and it differs per coin and per exchange.

And then there is the question of who holds your coins. Leaving assets on a platform means trusting it to keep them safe. Whether you keep coins on BLOX, on Gate or in your own wallet, factor that choice into the cost.

Regulation and safety

Cheap is only good if your money is in safe hands. A legitimate provider is licensed or registered with a financial regulator. Providers normally list their licence and the supervising authority on their website.

An important question is safeguarding: customer funds should be kept separate from the company’s own money, so they are protected if the company runs into trouble. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.

For crypto exchanges the questions are similar, but not the same: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. And on any platform: turn on 2FA and never reuse passwords.

Verdict

For 3 out of 3 conversions that BLOX and Gate both support, Gate delivered the better result once fees and exchange rate were counted. If cost is your main concern, start with Gate.

That does not make BLOX the wrong choice. The scenario table above shows the routes where BLOX does better, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, BLOX is simply the cheaper option for you.

Price is also not the only factor. BLOX may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. On a modest amount, a small price gap is often worth less than that convenience.
