The AUD/INR exchange rate at a glance
This overview follows the exchange rate between Australian Dollar (AUD) and Indian Rupee (INR), together with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. As of October 30, 2026, 1 AUD buys 66.7591 INR, while a single INR comes to 0.014979 AUD.
The rate shown above is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between what wholesale traders pay for AUD and what they ask for it. Think of it as the cleanest reference you can get: it contains no profit margin and no fees, and that is why you rarely get it as a private customer.
What ends up on the INR side comes down to two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Further down we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and share simple habits to keep more of your money when you change AUD into INR.
Why we compare total cost
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 66.7591. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in INR. The comparison covers 8 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.
We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links, which help fund our work. The order is never affected by them: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
How providers price AUD to INR
Nearly every bank and app stay away from the mid-market rate itself. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. This is known as the markup. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 AUD on every 100 AUD, without it ever appearing as a fee.
Next to that markup, many providers add a visible fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a percentage of the amount or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.
Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is how much INR the recipient ends up with for an identical AUD amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
SWIFT versus local payout for AUD to INR
A traditional bank sends your payment via the SWIFT system. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, and each can take a fee. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.
Specialised transfer services often work differently. They have local accounts on both sides, so your AUD stays in the AUD system and the recipient is paid in INR from a local account. This usually cuts both time and cost, with the final INR amount fixed upfront.
Speed is not down to the provider alone: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. The very first payment may be slower while identity checks are done. Get verified before you need to send if timing is tight.
Australian Dollar against Indian Rupee: the last twelve months
Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate shows a change of +15.14%. In that period the top of the range was 69.3454 INR per AUD, and the low point came in at 57.4237. The current 66.7591 sits somewhere inside that range.
That range between high and low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.
Where Australian Dollar and Indian Rupee are used
Australian Dollar is used in Australia. Indian Rupee is the official currency of India. This matters for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.
There are plenty of everyday reasons to convert AUD to INR: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. What suits one case may not suit another: a single big transfer calls for the best rate, whereas regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.
Each country has its own payment habits. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another, and in some places cash pickup or mobile money is common. Ask the recipient for the exact details in advance.
How to get a better AUD to INR rate
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. The number that matters is the INR amount after every cost, which combines the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a INR country, you may be asked whether to pay in AUD or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Always opt to pay in the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Watch the timing as well. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, but the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Staying safe with bigger AUD to INR transfers
Only use providers that are regulated. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.
Verify every detail of the recipient. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
1,000.00 AUD to INR, step by step
Consider a conversion of 1,000.00 AUD. Using the reference rate of 66.7591, you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the INR side. No service pays out that exact figure, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.
Of the 8 providers we compared, Revolut delivered the most, with 66,425.31 INR in the end. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Bear in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter for a ranking that fits your situation.
