The AUD/XAG exchange rate at a glance
This overview follows the rate for Australian Dollar (AUD) and Silver (XAG) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. As of October 30, 2026, one AUD is worth 0.014033 XAG, while a single XAG comes to 71.2603 AUD.
That headline number is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of what wholesale traders pay for AUD and what they ask for it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
What you actually receive depends on two separate costs: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Further down we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when you swap Australian Dollar for Silver.
Recent movement in the AUD/XAG rate
Across the last year, the exchange rate moved by +56.17%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 0.014033 XAG for one AUD, and the lowest was 0.00790737. Today’s rate of 0.014033 is easy to place within that band.
The spread between the year’s extremes shows how much the rate can move in practice. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you are waiting for a particular level, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
Paying less when you change AUD into XAG
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A small fee on its own says little if the rate is poor. The number that matters is the XAG amount after every cost, and that already includes both margin and fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, you may be asked whether to pay in AUD or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Pick the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.
Timing plays a role too. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. If you are not in a hurry, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
Finally, look at how you pay. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Staying safe with bigger AUD to XAG transfers
Only use providers that are regulated. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Verify every detail of the recipient. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Verify through a channel you trust.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
Reading a gold or silver price
Gold and silver prices are expressed per troy ounce, slightly heavier than a regular ounce, at around 31.1 grams. In currency notation, gold is XAU, silver XAG, platinum XPT and palladium XPD, which is why they appear here like any other currency. The rate shown is the price of one troy ounce.
That figure is the spot price: the market price for big bars traded between dealers. Buy a coin or small bar and you pay a premium on top, because of manufacturing and dealer costs. The buyback price is normally lower than spot.
You can own precious metals in several forms. Physical metal at home needs safe storage and insurance. An allocated vault account comes with storage costs but takes care of security. Funds and certificates follow the price without you owning a bar directly.
Tax rules also differ. In the EU, investment gold is generally exempt from VAT, while silver usually is not. This page shows the price and does not tell you whether to buy or sell.
How our AUD/XAG comparison works
Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, to calculate what actually arrives in XAG. The comparison covers 0 providers, ranked from most to least received.
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.
We are not owned by any provider. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
Where the cost of converting AUD to XAG hides
Most providers will not give you the rate of 0.014033 itself. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and earn on the difference. People call this the markup. With a 2% markup, for instance, about 2 out of every 100 AUD never reach the recipient.
Next to that markup, many providers ask for a separate fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is how much XAG the recipient ends up with for an identical AUD amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
