CHF to XAG explained
This overview follows the price relationship between Swiss Franc (CHF) and Silver (XAG), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. At the latest update on October 30, 2026, one CHF is worth 0.024264 XAG, while one XAG equals 41.2138 CHF.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It sits exactly halfway between what wholesale traders pay for CHF and what they ask for it. Think of it as a neutral benchmark: nobody earns anything on it directly, and that is why consumers almost never receive it in full.
What you actually receive is shaped by two separate costs: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and share simple habits to lose less on the exchange when you swap Swiss Franc for Silver.
Swiss Franc against Silver: the last twelve months
Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate shows a change of +46.75%. In that period the highest level was 0.024264 XAG per CHF, and the lowest was 0.014382. The current 0.024264 sits somewhere inside that range.
The distance between the high and the low shows how much the rate can move in practice. For a bigger amount, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.
The rate reflects interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you are waiting for a particular level, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.
How the CHF/XAG precious metal price works
The standard unit for metals is the troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams. In currency notation, gold is XAU, silver XAG, platinum XPT and palladium XPD, which is why they appear here like any other currency. One unit in this pair means one troy ounce.
The rate is based on the spot price: the market price for big bars traded between dealers. Buy a coin or small bar and you pay a premium on top, because of manufacturing and dealer costs. When you sell, dealers usually pay somewhat below spot.
Ownership comes in more than one shape. Keeping coins or bars yourself means arranging storage and insurance. Professional storage comes with storage costs but takes care of security. Exchange-traded products give exposure to the price, not always to the metal itself.
Taxes can change the picture. Within the EU investment gold usually carries no VAT, unlike most silver. We show prices, not investment advice.
Example: converting 1,000.00 CHF
Let’s use a transfer of 1,000.00 CHF. Using the reference rate of 0.024264, that sum sets the ceiling for what the recipient could get. In reality every provider keeps something, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Looking at all 2 providers we track, Revolut came out cheapest for this amount and paid out 24.14 XAG in the end. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 CHF is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above to see the ranking that applies to you.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Check the provider’s licence first. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Verify through a channel you trust.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
Paying less when you change CHF into XAG
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A low headline fee proves nothing if the rate is poor. What you want to know is the XAG amount after every cost, which combines margin and fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing can also matter. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. When there is no deadline, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once CHF/XAG reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer reduces what you pay in flat fees.
How we rank providers for CHF to XAG
We start from the live mid-market rate for CHF/XAG. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much XAG the recipient would end up with. The comparison covers 2 providers, placed side by side.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.
We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links. They have no influence on the order: the provider that delivers the most XAG comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
What banks and apps really charge for CHF to XAG
Most providers will not give you the rate of 0.024264 as such. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. That gap is called the markup. If the margin is 2%, then about 2 out of every 100 CHF never reach the recipient.
On top of the margin, many providers charge an explicit fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. With international bank payments the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Look twice at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. The only fair way to compare is the final XAG figure for an identical CHF amount, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
