The PLN/AUD exchange rate explained

The page you are reading brings together the rate for Polish Zloty (PLN) and Australian Dollar (AUD) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. On October 30, 2026, 1 PLN buys 0.361639 AUD, and one AUD equals 2.7652 PLN.

The rate shown above is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as a neutral benchmark: nobody earns anything on it directly, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What you actually receive is shaped by two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, put them side by side and list practical steps to keep more of your money when converting PLN to AUD.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

Most providers stay away from the mid-market rate as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. That gap is called the exchange rate margin. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 PLN on every 100 PLN, without it ever appearing as a fee.

On top of the margin, most banks ask for a separate fee. That can be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. What really counts is the final AUD figure for the same amount of PLN, which is how the table above is sorted.

About this comparison

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much AUD the recipient would end up with. The comparison covers 9 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.

We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help fund our work. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most AUD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

How PLN to AUD transfers travel

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment through SWIFT. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, sometimes taking a fee at each step. It typically arrives within a few working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.

Dedicated providers take another route. They keep money in accounts in both regions, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. This usually cuts both time and cost, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.

Delivery time depends on several factors: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. New customers sometimes wait a little longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Get verified before you need to send if the money has to arrive on a set date.

How PLN/AUD moved over the past year

Across the last year, the PLN/AUD rate has changed by -13.16%. In that period the highest level was 0.423062 AUD per PLN, while the bottom of the range was 0.359425. Today’s rate of 0.361639 can be measured against those two levels.

That range between high and low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you want to act on a certain rate, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

Paying less when you change PLN into AUD

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. The fairest figure to compare is how much AUD arrives for your PLN, which combines margin and fee.

When you pay by card abroad, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once PLN/AUD reaches a level you choose. That avoids guessing, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer reduces what you pay in flat fees.

The countries behind PLN and AUD

Polish Zloty is used in Poland. Australian Dollar is the official currency of Australia. That is useful to know for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.

People convert PLN to AUD for many reasons: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. Not every situation needs the same solution: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, whereas frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.

Each country has its own payment habits. Account formats differ: IBAN in one place, account and routing numbers in another, and in some places mobile wallets or cash collection are widely used. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.

A worked example with 5,000.00 PLN

Consider an amount of 5,000.00 PLN. Using the reference rate of 0.361639, that sum sets the ceiling for what any provider could deliver in AUD. No service pays out that exact figure, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Of the 9 providers we compared, Wise gave the best result and paid out 1,799.42 AUD at the time of our last update. The gap between 1,799.42 AUD and the theoretical maximum is what the conversion actually cost you.

Bear in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Run your own figure through the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.

Sending a larger amount from PLN to AUD

Make sure the provider is licensed. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own and that offers protection if the company fails.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Verify through a channel you trust.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
