Singapore Dollar to US Dollar explained

The page you are reading follows the rate for Singapore Dollar (SGD) and US Dollar (USD) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. On October 30, 2026, 1 SGD equals 0.782224 USD, while a single USD is worth 1.2784 SGD.

The figure at the top is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy SGD and the price at which they sell it. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so consumers almost never receive it in full.

What ends up on the USD side is shaped by two things: the margin a provider adds to that rate and any fixed or percentage fee. In the sections below we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when converting SGD to USD.

The SGD/USD rate over twelve months

Over the past twelve months, the price of SGD in USD shows a change of +1.88%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 0.792617 USD per SGD, while the lowest was 0.764622. The current 0.782224 can be measured against those two levels.

That range between high and low puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

Rates are pushed around by central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you are waiting for a particular level, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

A worked example with 1,000.00 SGD

Consider a transfer of 1,000.00 SGD. Using the reference rate of 0.782224, that marks the theoretical maximum of what any provider could deliver in USD. In reality every provider keeps something, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Looking at all 8 providers we track, Revolut gave the best result, with 778.31 USD at the time of our last update. The gap between 778.31 USD and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.

Note that a different amount can produce a different winner. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter and check whether the order changes.

Where you pay with SGD and USD

Singapore Dollar is the legal tender in Singapore. US Dollar is used in United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Panama. That is useful to know when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.

The reasons for changing SGD into USD vary: rent or a mortgage abroad, tuition fees, a salary paid in another currency, savings or a holiday. Each situation asks for something different: a single big transfer calls for the best rate, while frequent smaller payments suffer more from flat charges.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet, and in some places cash pickup or mobile money is common. Check which details the provider needs before you start.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Check the provider’s licence first. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Check names and account details twice. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.

For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.

Bank transfer or money transfer service for USD?

Your regular bank usually sends the money over the SWIFT network. The money can pass through one or more correspondent banks, each of which can deduct a charge. Expect anything from one to a few working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.

Dedicated providers take another route. They hold balances in both currencies, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, with the final USD amount fixed upfront.

How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: your payment method, cut-off times and public holidays on either side. New customers sometimes wait a little longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Finish verification in advance if the money has to arrive on a set date.

Tips for converting SGD to USD

Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A small fee on its own says little if the rate is poor. The number that matters is how much USD arrives for your SGD, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a USD country, you may be asked whether to pay in SGD or in the local currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Always opt to pay in the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Bundling smaller transfers reduces what you pay in flat fees.

What banks and apps really charge for SGD to USD

Most providers do not convert at the rate of 0.782224 as such. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and earn on the difference. People call this the exchange rate margin. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 SGD on every 100 SGD, without it ever appearing as a fee.

On top of the margin, most banks ask for a separate fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network extra deductions can follow, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Look twice at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. The reliable test is the total amount that arrives in USD for an identical SGD amount, which is how the table above is sorted.

How our SGD/USD comparison works

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, which gives the amount the recipient receives. We do this for 8 providers, placed side by side.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.

We are not owned by any provider. Some links on this page are affiliate links. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most USD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
