USD to BRL at a glance

This page tracks the exchange rate between US Dollar (USD) and Brazilian Real (BRL) and sets it next to the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. On October 30, 2026, 1 USD buys 5.3932 BRL, while a single BRL equals 0.185419 USD.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy USD and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: nobody earns anything on it directly, so you rarely get it as a private customer.

What you actually receive comes down to two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, look at what a conversion costs in practice and share simple habits to get closer to the mid-market rate when you swap US Dollar for Brazilian Real.

Sample calculation for 1,000.00 USD

Take an amount of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 5.3932, you can work out the upper limit of what the recipient could get. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Across the 9 providers in our comparison, Wise gave the best result and paid out 5,366.48 BRL after all costs. The gap between 5,366.48 BRL and the theoretical maximum shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Keep in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above for a ranking that fits your situation.

Tips for converting USD to BRL

Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. The number that matters is how much BRL arrives for your USD, and that already includes both margin and fee.

When you pay by card abroad, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing plays a role too. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer reduces what you pay in flat fees.

Sending a larger amount from USD to BRL

Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.

Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

The USD/BRL rate over twelve months

Compared with a year ago, the price of USD in BRL has changed by +0.04%. Within those twelve months the rate peaked at 5.5872 BRL per USD, and the bottom of the range was 4.8999. Today’s rate of 5.3932 is easy to place within that band.

That range between high and low puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, occasionally more than the difference between providers.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

The countries behind USD and BRL

US Dollar is used in United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Panama. Brazilian Real is used in Brazil. Knowing this helps when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.

There are plenty of everyday reasons to convert USD to BRL: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a single big transfer calls for the best rate, whereas regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet and in certain countries payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Check which details the provider needs before you start.

Where the cost of converting USD to BRL hides

Nearly every bank and app stay away from the mid-market rate itself. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. People call this the exchange rate margin. With a 2% markup, for instance, for every 100 USD you convert, about 2 USD worth disappears before the money arrives.

On top of the margin, many providers charge an explicit fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. With international bank payments the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. What really counts is the total amount that arrives in BRL for exactly the same sum, and that is the figure our table ranks on.

Delivery times and routes for BRL transfers

With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment via the SWIFT system. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, sometimes taking a fee at each step. Expect anything from one to a few working days, and the final deduction is often only visible afterwards.

Dedicated providers take another route. They have local accounts on both sides, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. That is often faster and cheaper, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.

Delivery time depends on several factors: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. New customers sometimes wait a little longer as the provider completes its checks. Get verified before you need to send when a deadline is involved.

How we rank providers for USD to BRL

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 5.3932. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, and work out how much BRL the recipient would end up with. We do this for 9 providers, ranked from most to least received.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, because their rate can move between our updates.

We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help fund our work. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most BRL comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
