US Dollar to USD Coin explained

This page brings together the price relationship between US Dollar (USD) and USD Coin (USDC) and sets it next to what real providers charge to convert one into the other. At the latest update on October 31, 2026, one USD is worth 1.0001 USDC, while one USDC is worth 0.999887 USD.

That headline number is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy USD and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as a neutral benchmark: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What you actually receive depends on two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to get closer to the mid-market rate when you swap US Dollar for USD Coin.

One year of USD to USDC

Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate moved by -0.01%. During that year the highest level was 1.0013 USDC for one USD, and the bottom of the range was 0.997598. The current 1.0001 can be measured against those two levels.

The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.

Rates are pushed around by interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.

Where the cost of converting USD to USDC hides

Nearly every bank and app will not give you the rate of 1.0001 as such. They shift the rate in their own favour and keep the difference. People call this the exchange rate margin. With a 2% markup, for instance, for every 100 USD you convert, about 2 USD worth disappears before the money arrives.

Next to that markup, many providers ask for a separate fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. On classic bank transfers abroad the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.

Take a close look at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is the final USDC figure for an identical USD amount, which is how the table above is sorted.

Paying less when you change USD into USDC

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. The fairest figure to compare is how much USDC arrives for your USD, which combines the markup and the fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a USDC country, you may be asked whether to pay in USD or in the local currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. For transfers that can wait, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once USD/USDC reaches a level you choose. That avoids guessing, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.

Sample calculation for 1,000.00 USD

Take an amount of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 1.0001, you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in USDC. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Across the 16 providers in our comparison, Crypto.com delivered the most, with 998.86 USDC after all costs. The gap between 998.86 USDC and the theoretical maximum is what the conversion actually cost you.

Keep in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.

Before you send: security and large amounts

Check the provider’s licence first. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Check names and account details twice. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Verify through a channel you trust.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

About this comparison

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in USDC. The comparison covers 16 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.

We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: providers are sorted purely by how much USDC the recipient gets.

Converting USD to USDC as a crypto pair

Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On an exchange with an order book, you pay the difference between bid and ask, plus a trading fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price with the margin already included.

When you move crypto to or from your own wallet, you pay a network or withdrawal fee. It is unrelated to how much you move, which makes small withdrawals relatively expensive. Make sure the sending and receiving side use the same network: mistakes here are rarely reversible.

The price of a crypto asset can swing hard in a short time. A quote is often only valid for a short moment, while large trades risk slippage. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.

Think about custody as well. On a platform, someone else manages the private keys, while self-custody means you alone can access, or lose, the funds. Use platforms that are registered with the regulator in your country.
