The XAG/RON exchange rate: rate, costs and context
This overview brings together the rate for Silver (XAG) and Romanian Leu (RON), together with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. On October 30, 2026, one XAG is worth 236.0379 RON, while 1 RON is worth 0.00423661 XAG.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy XAG and the price at which they sell it. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so consumers almost never receive it in full.
What you actually receive depends on two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and any fixed or percentage fee. In the sections below we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and list practical steps to keep more of your money when you change XAG into RON.
Staying safe with bigger XAG to RON transfers
Make sure the provider is licensed. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own, which protects you if something goes wrong.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Verify through a channel you trust.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
How the XAG/RON precious metal price works
Precious metals are quoted per troy ounce, equal to roughly 31.1 grams. The codes XAU, XAG, XPT and XPD stand for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, which is why they appear here like any other currency. The rate shown is the price of one troy ounce.
The rate is based on the spot price: the wholesale price for immediate delivery of large bars. Retail products carry a premium above that price, because of manufacturing and dealer costs. When you sell, dealers usually pay somewhat below spot.
You can own precious metals in several forms. Keeping coins or bars yourself means arranging storage and insurance. Vault storage through a dealer comes with storage costs but takes care of security. Paper products track the price but do not always give you physical metal.
Tax rules also differ. In the EU, investment gold is generally exempt from VAT, while silver usually is not. This page shows the price and does not tell you whether to buy or sell.
How our XAG/RON comparison works
Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, which gives the amount the recipient receives. We do this for 0 providers, placed side by side.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, since markets keep moving.
We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links. The order is never affected by them: providers are sorted purely by how much RON the recipient gets.
How XAG/RON moved over the past year
Across the last year, the price of XAG in RON has changed by -29.67%. In that period the highest level was 388.9622 RON for one XAG, while the low point came in at 236.0379. Today’s rate of 236.0379 is easy to place within that band.
The spread between the year’s extremes puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
Rates are pushed around by central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you are waiting for a particular level, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.
Getting the most RON for your XAG
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive if the rate is poor. The fairest figure to compare is how much RON arrives for your XAG, and that already includes both margin and fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a RON country, you may be asked whether to pay in XAG or in the local currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. That avoids guessing, but the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.
What banks and apps really charge for XAG to RON
The majority of services do not convert at the rate of 236.0379 as such. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and keep the difference. This is known as the markup. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 XAG on every 100 XAG, without it ever appearing as a fee.
Next to that markup, a lot of services charge an explicit fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.
Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The reliable test is the final RON figure for exactly the same sum, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
