XAG to CHF at a glance

The page you are reading follows the exchange rate between Silver (XAG) and Swiss Franc (CHF) and sets it next to the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. At the latest update on October 31, 2026, 1 XAG equals 40.6338 CHF, and 1 CHF equals 0.024610 XAG.

The figure at the top is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Think of it as a fair reference point: no fee or margin is built in, so consumers almost never receive it in full.

What ends up on the CHF side is shaped by two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and give concrete ways to get closer to the mid-market rate when you swap Silver for Swiss Franc.

Why we compare total cost

We start from the live mid-market rate for XAG/CHF. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, which gives the amount the recipient receives. We do this for 2 providers, placed side by side.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, with October 31, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, because their rate can move between our updates.

GoldexPay is independent. We may earn a commission through some links, which help pay for the site. They have no influence on the order: the provider that delivers the most CHF comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Practical ways to save on XAG/CHF

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. The number that matters is how much CHF arrives for your XAG, which combines the markup and the fee.

At foreign tills and cash machines, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. This is called dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Choose the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.

Watch the timing as well. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. If you are not in a hurry, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once XAG/CHF reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

Nearly every bank and app will not give you the mid-market rate as such. They offer a rate that is a little less favourable and keep the difference. This is known as the exchange rate margin. If the margin is 2%, then for every 100 XAG you convert, about 2 XAG worth disappears before the money arrives.

On top of the margin, many providers charge an explicit fee. That can be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.

Be wary of services that advertise free transfers. The cost often sits in the rate instead. The only fair way to compare is how much CHF the recipient ends up with for the same amount of XAG, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.

One year of XAG to CHF

Over the past twelve months, the exchange rate has changed by -32.81%. Within those twelve months the highest level was 69.5317 CHF for one XAG, while the bottom of the range was 40.6338. At 40.6338, the rate today is easy to place within that band.

The spread between the year’s extremes is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

The rate reflects interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.

Reading a gold or silver price

Gold and silver prices are expressed per troy ounce, equal to roughly 31.1 grams. The codes XAU, XAG, XPT and XPD stand for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, so the metal behaves like one side of a currency pair. The figure above refers to one troy ounce.

That figure is the spot price: the market price for big bars traded between dealers. Coins and small bars cost more than spot, to pay for production, distribution and the seller’s margin. When you sell, dealers usually pay somewhat below spot.

There are different ways to hold metal. Storing metal at home brings its own risks and costs. An allocated vault account comes with storage costs but takes care of security. Funds and certificates follow the price without you owning a bar directly.

Check how tax applies as well. Across the EU, investment gold is normally VAT-free, but silver is generally taxed. We show prices, not investment advice.

What 20.00 XAG gets you in CHF

Let’s use an amount of 20.00 XAG. At the mid-market rate of 40.6338, that marks the theoretical maximum of what the recipient could get. No service pays out that exact figure, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Across the 2 providers in our comparison, Revolut gave the best result, with 808.62 CHF at the time of our last update. The gap between 808.62 CHF and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.

Keep in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter for a ranking that fits your situation.
