Gold to Ethereum: rate, costs and context
This overview tracks the exchange rate between Gold (XAU) and Ethereum (ETH) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. As of October 31, 2026, one XAU is worth 1.7347 ETH, and one ETH equals 0.576479 XAU.
The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the price at which large banks buy XAU and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as the cleanest reference you can get: no fee or margin is built in, so consumers almost never receive it in full.
What ends up on the ETH side is shaped by two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. In the sections below we show how those costs are built up, show how they add up on a real amount and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when you change XAU into ETH.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Verify every detail of the recipient. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Verify through a channel you trust.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, like a statement or a sales contract. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
What to know about XAU/ETH on crypto platforms
Where you convert matters a lot with crypto. On an exchange with an order book, you deal with a spread between the highest bid and the lowest ask, on top of a maker or taker fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price that has the cost baked in.
Withdrawing crypto from a platform, you pay a network or withdrawal fee. It is unrelated to how much you move, which makes small withdrawals relatively expensive. Make sure the sending and receiving side use the same network: mistakes here are rarely reversible.
Volatility is much higher than with regular currencies. A displayed price may be fixed only for a few seconds, and on large orders the execution price can slip. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.
Think about custody as well. If you leave crypto on a platform, the platform controls it, whereas self-custody means you alone can access, or lose, the funds. Look for registration with a financial supervisor before you deposit.
How providers price XAU to ETH
Nearly every bank and app do not convert at the mid-market rate as such. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. This is known as the spread. With a 2% markup, for instance, you lose roughly 2 XAU on every 100 XAU, without it ever appearing as a fee.
Next to that markup, many providers ask for a separate fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. With international bank payments other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.
Look twice at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is how much ETH the recipient ends up with for an identical XAU amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
How XAU/ETH moved over the past year
Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate moved by -27.00%. During that year the top of the range was 2.8060 ETH for one XAU, and the bottom of the range was 1.5208. At 1.7347, the rate today is easy to place within that band.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you are waiting for a particular level, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
How to get a better XAU to ETH rate
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A small fee on its own says little when the margin is high. The fairest figure to compare is the amount received, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a ETH country, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Pick the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.
Timing plays a role too. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. For transfers that can wait, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once XAU/ETH reaches a level you choose. It takes the guesswork out, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Why we compare total cost
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 1.7347. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in ETH. In total 0 providers are included, ranked from most to least received.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, since markets keep moving.
GoldexPay is independent. We may earn a commission through some links, which help fund our work. They have no influence on the order: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
How the XAU/ETH precious metal price works
The standard unit for metals is the troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams. The codes XAU, XAG, XPT and XPD stand for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, which is why they appear here like any other currency. The figure above refers to one troy ounce.
What you see is the spot price: the price professionals pay for large quantities. Coins and small bars cost more than spot, covering minting, handling and the dealer’s margin. Selling back typically happens below the spot price.
You can own precious metals in several forms. Physical metal at home needs safe storage and insurance. An allocated vault account comes with storage costs but takes care of security. Paper products track the price but do not always give you physical metal.
Taxes can change the picture. In the EU, investment gold is generally exempt from VAT, while silver usually is not. This page shows the price and does not tell you whether to buy or sell.
