OLSI Bank code

ES Country code
2 letters for the country (ISO 3166).
B1 Location code
2 characters for the city or region of the head office.
XXX Branch code

Finding a SWIFT code in Spain

On this page you find the SWIFT/BIC codes of 581 institutions in Spain, 933 codes in all. You need such a code mainly for international transfers, and especially for payments in foreign currencies.

Choose a bank from the list to view its head office code and any branch codes along with tips for payments to and from that bank. Below the list you can read how codes from Spain are built, how to send money there at a fair price and how to check a code before you pay.

The Euro (EUR) and conversion costs

Most accounts in Spain are typically held in EUR – the Euro. A payment in a foreign currency will be converted into EUR before it reaches the account – and the bank that does it picks the rate.

Where the conversion happens has an effect on the final amount, since every bank sets its own rate. Check how much EUR the recipient gets with several services. Exchange rates change during the day – some providers let you lock in a rate.

Paying in euros to Spain

Spain is part of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), where euro transfers follow common rules. For a regular euro transfer from another SEPA country, the IBAN is usually enough and the BIC is often filled in automatically.

You still need the BIC when sending payments in other currencies or transfers from countries outside SEPA. Instant euro transfers have become increasingly supported within SEPA. As long as no conversion is involved, a SEPA transfer is usually inexpensive.

Incoming international payments in Spain

A sender in another country needs several details from you. Share the account holder’s name, the IBAN or account number, the BIC of your bank and your address, which some banks require.

Your bank’s code appears in the list on this page but always compare it with your own bank details. It helps to include the name and city of your bank.

Expect that the incoming amount is below the amount on the sender’s receipt. Intermediary banks may deduct a fee, your bank may charge for incoming payments, and if the money is converted, an exchange rate margin comes on top. Agree with the sender who pays which costs.

SWIFT codes in Spain: banks under :letter

The letter filter limits the list to banks from Spain that begin with :letter. The totals mentioned above still refer to the whole country, not just this letter.

Cannot find the bank? Its official name might start with a different letter – think of the full legal name instead of the brand. Use the full list for Spain if you do not know how the name is spelled.

Check the code before you pay

The most reliable place for the right code is a document from the bank itself, such as a statement or the account page in online banking. When the code you were given differs from the code listed here, do not guess: check with the recipient or the bank.

We gather SWIFT/BIC codes from publicly available data and update them from time to time. Still, banks merge or retire codes, so information can be out of date. Use our data as a starting point rather than the last word; the recipient’s bank details are leading. GoldexPay is an independent comparison site and is not affiliated with the banks listed.

Scammers regularly send payment requests carrying new bank details that look completely genuine. Always confirm changed details through a separate channel on a number you know.

The structure of a Spain SWIFT/BIC code

A BIC is 8 or 11 characters long and follows a fixed pattern. The first four letters stand for the bank, the fifth and sixth characters form the country code and characters seven and eight mark the location.

You can spot a code from Spain from the fifth and sixth characters – those always form the country code of Spain. Codes with a different country code belong to a bank abroad.

When a code ends in XXX, it refers to the head office. For most transfers the head office code is fine, unless the recipient gives you a branch code.

Which bank in Spain has the most codes?

Among the 581 institutions we list, BNP Paribas Securities Services, Spain holds the largest number of SWIFT/BIC codes of all banks in Spain. The head office uses PARBESMHXXX – the code most transfers need.

Banks differ in how many codes they register – a high count is not a measure of size. Paying someone at BNP Paribas Securities Services, Spain? Use PARBESMHXXX except when a specific branch code is requested.

When does money sent to Spain arrive?

There is no single delivery time for payments to Spain: some arrive the same day or the next, others take several business days. Bank holidays in Spain or in the sending country add a day or more to the journey.

If the money seems delayed, the sender should contact their own bank for a trace. Keep your transfer receipt until the recipient confirms – you will need it if something goes wrong.

The cheapest way to send money to Spain

What you pay for a payment to Spain is made up of more than one component – not only the fee you see. There is a transfer fee, possibly fees from correspondent banks along the way and, above all, the exchange rate markup if the money is converted.

The real cost is often in the rate. A simple test: put the offered rate against the mid-market rate and look at the difference.

For a lot of currency pairs, a transfer service turns out to be cheaper than a bank. On GoldexPay we compare the amount that arrives in Spain with different services.
