Binance versus OKX: the real cost compared
Picking Binance or OKX comes down to more than the brand name. The useful question is how much of your money arrives once both the visible fee and the hidden margin are counted. That is the gap we measure here.
On our site, Binance belongs to the crypto exchange group and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while OKX belongs to crypto exchange and covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. Those two labels say quite a lot about where they overlap and where they do not.
Further down this page we walk through our method, what each one is good at, and who should pick which. Rates on this page are live, so the numbers may differ slightly from yesterday.
What to compare between two exchanges
Crypto exchanges price their service in several layers. On instant buy screens the main cost is often the spread rather than a listed fee. If you use the order book, maker and taker fees replace the spread as the main cost.
Deposits and withdrawals deserve a separate look. A bank transfer is usually the cheapest way to fund an account; a card is faster but pricier. When you withdraw crypto, a network fee applies, and it differs per coin and per exchange.
Custody is the last point. Leaving assets on a platform means trusting it to keep them safe. Many users move larger holdings to a wallet they control, which makes the withdrawal fee part of the real cost.
Why “zero fee” is not always cheap
“No fees” is one of the most common claims in money transfer, and one of the most misleading. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. On a large amount, a small margin can add up to more than a fixed fee would.
So we never compare fees on their own. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. The amount received is the honest benchmark.
Also look beyond the conversion: withdrawal and network fees, card costs and fees at intermediary banks. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.
Too close to call
In our scenario table, Binance and OKX win the same number of conversions. In practice this means the answer depends on what you send and where. In a case like this, your own numbers say more than any general verdict.
The better approach is to enter your own amount and currency pair in the calculator. Look at the row that matches your situation rather than the overall count. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, percentage margins on large ones.
If price does not separate them, other things decide: how fast the money arrives, how you can pay in and which app you find easier.
Safety checks before you sign up
Before you look at cost, check who is looking after your money. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.
With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be ring-fenced from the business’s own accounts. Safeguarding is not the same as a deposit guarantee, so a transfer app is no replacement for a savings account.
For crypto exchanges the questions are similar, but not the same: registration with a regulator, how customer assets are stored and whether you can withdraw to your own wallet. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
Can you use Binance and OKX together?
Many people do not use one provider for everything. It is perfectly normal to keep Binance for one task and OKX for another. Signing up rarely costs anything, but verification is not always instant.
Each time you plan a bigger conversion, compare live quotes here first, since rates move and the cheaper side can flip. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.
If you switch, withdraw or spend your remaining balance first and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
How fast the money arrives
Fastest delivery: Instant at Binance and Instant at OKX. That is the quickest route, not the usual one for every transfer. Bank holidays, verification checks and the receiving bank can all add time.
How you fund a transfer makes a big difference. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.
Beyond raw speed, think about convenience: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.
Which one suits you?
For travel spending, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
If you send money abroad regularly, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
If you want to buy crypto, you need a platform that actually supports crypto, and you should compare spreads and withdrawal costs. Businesses should look at business accounts and batch payments, which not every provider offers. This page compares cost, not suitability as an investment.
Our method
Every provider earns money in two ways: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. Our yardstick is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between what the market bids and asks. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.
We run this for several sample amounts, from small to large, so the effect of fixed fees and percentages becomes visible. We update rates every 30 minutes and take fees from each provider’s public price list. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
GoldexPay is independent. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. The numbers decide, not the commission.
Two rivals in the same category
Binance and OKX are both in our crypto exchange category, so they compete for the same customers. That makes the differences smaller, but they still matter.
Start with coverage: which currencies or assets each one supports, and which countries you can send to or from. On paper, Binance supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies and OKX supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. A small gap in coverage can matter more than a small price difference.
Then compare price on the route you actually use, plus limits, verification and the quality of the app. Because they are so similar, trying the other one later costs little.
Why the amount can change the winner
The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.
For large amounts, it can pay to ask about volume pricing, and your own price may then be better than the one shown. Before a big transfer with Binance or OKX, read the current pricing on their site.
