Binance vs Bybit: a side-by-side cost check

Deciding between Binance and Bybit is rarely about the logo. The real question is how much of your money arrives once both the visible fee and the hidden margin have been taken into account. This page puts a number on that.

In our comparison, Binance belongs to the crypto exchange category and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while Bybit is filed under crypto exchange and handles Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. Those two labels say a fair bit about which jobs each one is built for.

Below the calculator you can read our method, the trade-offs that do not show up in a single number and who should pick which. Because the rates are live, today’s result is not set in stone.

Binance or Bybit: which fits your situation?

For travel spending, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.

To send money to a bank account abroad, the total cost per transfer and the delivery time are what count. Large one-off sums deserve a separate check: limits, extra verification and the margin all weigh more.

When buying crypto, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. For business payments, check whether a business account is available and what it costs. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.

Verdict: Binance is cheaper more often

For 4 out of 4 conversions that Binance and Bybit both support, Binance left you with more money at live rates. That gives Binance the edge for most typical transfers.

Still, Bybit is not out of the race. Scroll back to the table to find the routes where Bybit does better, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, Bybit is simply the cheaper option for you.

There is more to it than price. Bybit may support a payment method, a currency or a delivery option you need. For small sums, those practical points can outweigh the price difference.

Switching between Binance and Bybit

You do not have to pick just one. Plenty of users keep an account with both and choose per transfer. Opening an account is usually free, though identity verification can take a while.

Each time you plan a bigger conversion, compare live quotes here first, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. It takes a minute and can save real money.

If you switch, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.

Two rivals in the same category

Binance and Bybit are both in our crypto exchange category, which makes this a fair, direct comparison. When two services do the same job, the details decide.

Check the basics: supported currencies, countries and payment methods. Binance covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, Bybit covers Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. A small gap in coverage can matter more than a small price difference.

After that, it comes down to price on your specific route, along with practical matters such as the app and customer service. Since both play in the same league, switching later is usually easy.

How the numbers are worked out

The cost of a conversion has two parts: a visible fee and a margin hidden in the exchange rate. We compare the rate each provider gives you with the live mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.

We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, because fixed fees and percentage fees behave differently. Rates refresh every 30 minutes and fees come from the providers’ published fee schedules. Special offers or paid plans can change the price you actually pay.

We are not owned by any provider. Affiliate links help pay for the site, but the ranking is based on cost alone. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.

Delivery time and ease of use

The fastest delivery we have on record for Binance is Instant; for Bybit it is Instant. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.

The payment method matters as much as the provider. Faster funding options can come with a higher fee, so check the total in the calculator. If the money is not urgent, the slower and cheaper route is often the smart choice.

Then there is everyday use: a clear app, transfer tracking and quick support make a difference when something goes wrong. Which app feels easier is a matter of taste.

Does the amount matter?

The cheapest choice for a small amount is not always the cheapest for a large one. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. So look at the row closest to the amount you plan to convert.

Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, which is not always visible in our sample amounts. Before a big transfer with Binance or Bybit, read the current pricing on their site.

What to compare between two exchanges

Crypto exchanges price their service in several layers. On instant buy screens the main cost is often the spread rather than a listed fee. On the trading screen, maker and taker fees apply instead: makers add orders to the order book, takers fill existing ones.

Moving money in and out also costs something. A bank transfer is usually the cheapest way to fund an account; a card is faster but pricier. Withdrawing coins to your own wallet comes with a network or withdrawal fee that varies per asset.

And then there is the question of who holds your coins. Leaving assets on a platform means trusting it to keep them safe. If you plan to move coins to your own wallet, include the withdrawal fee in your comparison.

Where the real cost hides

Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. A provider can still earn its money on the rate. On a large amount, a small margin can add up to more than a fixed fee would.

So we never compare fees on their own. Two providers can arrive at a similar price by very different routes. The amount received is the honest benchmark.

Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: weekend surcharges, card fees, charges by the receiving bank or withdrawal fees on crypto. We include what is published, but it pays to double-check before a large transaction.

Is your money safe?

Price matters, but so does knowing your money is handled properly. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. The supervisor’s public register lets you check this yourself.

With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.

Crypto exchanges deserve extra scrutiny: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. In all cases, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) from day one.
