The AUD/CNY exchange rate at a glance

This page brings together the price relationship between Australian Dollar (AUD) and Chinese Yuan (CNY), together with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. As of October 30, 2026, 1 AUD equals 4.6762 CNY, while one CNY equals 0.213849 AUD.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It sits exactly halfway between what wholesale traders pay for AUD and what they ask for it. Think of it as a neutral benchmark: it contains no profit margin and no fees, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What ends up on the CNY side is shaped by two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and any fixed or percentage fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when converting AUD to CNY.

A worked example with 1,000.00 AUD

Consider a transfer of 1,000.00 AUD. Using the reference rate of 4.6762, that sum sets the ceiling for what is possible on the CNY side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Across the 8 providers in our comparison, Revolut delivered the most and paid out 4,652.81 CNY at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is the real price of the transfer.

Bear in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 AUD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.

Getting the most CNY for your AUD

Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A small fee on its own says little when the margin is high. What you want to know is how much CNY arrives for your AUD, which combines the markup and the fee.

When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in AUD or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It usually comes with a steep markup. Choose the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. For transfers that can wait, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Also check how you fund the transfer. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.

Why we compare total cost

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 4.6762. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in CNY. The comparison covers 8 providers, placed side by side.

The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. The final price is always set by the provider itself, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.

We are not owned by any provider. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most CNY comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Safety checks before you convert AUD to CNY

Only use providers that are regulated. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.

Recent movement in the AUD/CNY rate

Compared with a year ago, the price of AUD in CNY moved by +0.58%. In that period the rate peaked at 4.9348 CNY for one AUD, while the bottom of the range was 4.5789. The current 4.6762 is easy to place within that band.

That range between high and low shows how much the rate can move in practice. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

How AUD to CNY transfers travel

A traditional bank sends your payment through SWIFT. Your transfer may hop between several banks before it arrives, sometimes taking a fee at each step. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.

Many money transfer apps use a different model. They have local accounts on both sides, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.

How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. A first transfer can take longer as the provider completes its checks. Finish verification in advance if the money has to arrive on a set date.

Where Australian Dollar and Chinese Yuan are used

Australian Dollar is the currency of Australia. Chinese Yuan is used in China. Knowing this helps when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.

There are plenty of everyday reasons to convert AUD to CNY: moving abroad, studying, doing business or sending a gift. Each situation asks for something different: a single big transfer benefits most from a sharp rate, while frequent smaller payments are more sensitive to fixed fees.

The way money is paid out also differs per country. Some recipients expect a bank account number with a local bank code, others an IBAN, and in some places cash pickup or mobile money is common. Check which details the provider needs before you start.

What banks and apps really charge for AUD to CNY

The majority of services stay away from the rate of 4.6762 as such. They shift the rate in their own favour and pocket the gap. That gap is called the markup. With a 2% markup, for instance, about 2 out of every 100 AUD never reach the recipient.

On top of the margin, most banks add a visible fee. That can be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. What really counts is how much CNY the recipient ends up with for an identical AUD amount, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
