Converting US Dollar into Mexican Peso: what you are looking at
The page you are reading brings together the price relationship between US Dollar (USD) and Mexican Peso (MXN), together with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, one USD is worth 18.9050 MXN, and 1 MXN is worth 0.052896 USD.
That headline number is the interbank mid rate. It sits exactly halfway between what wholesale traders pay for USD and what they ask for it. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
What you actually receive comes down to two things: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and list practical steps to get closer to the mid-market rate when you change USD into MXN.
Where the cost of converting USD to MXN hides
The majority of services do not convert at the rate of 18.9050 as such. They quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. That gap is called the markup. With a 2% markup, for instance, about 2 out of every 100 USD never reach the recipient.
Next to that markup, many providers charge an explicit fee. This is usually a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.
Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The reliable test is the total amount that arrives in MXN for the same amount of USD, which is how the table above is sorted.
Larger transfers: what to check first
Only use providers that are regulated. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Verify through a channel you trust.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
Where you pay with USD and MXN
US Dollar is the currency of United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Panama. Mexican Peso is used in Mexico. Knowing this helps when you plan a trip, pay an invoice or send money to family.
There are plenty of everyday reasons to convert USD to MXN: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a one-off large payment benefits most from a sharp rate, while regular small amounts suffer more from flat charges.
Each country has its own payment habits. Some recipients expect a bank account number with a local bank code, others an IBAN, and in some places payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
Getting the most MXN for your USD
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive because the margin can make up the difference. The number that matters is the amount received, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a MXN country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It saves you from checking the rate every day, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.
US Dollar against Mexican Peso: the last twelve months
Over the past twelve months, the price of USD in MXN has changed by +1.68%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 18.9050 MXN for one USD, while the bottom of the range was 16.8945. Today’s rate of 18.9050 can be measured against those two levels.
The distance between the high and the low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. On a large conversion, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
Rates are pushed around by news, economic data and supply and demand on the market. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
How we rank providers for USD to MXN
We start from the live mid-market rate for USD/MXN. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much MXN the recipient would end up with. In total 9 providers are included, ranked from most to least received.
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, since markets keep moving.
We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links, which help pay for the site. They have no influence on the order: providers are sorted purely by how much MXN the recipient gets.
SWIFT versus local payout for USD to MXN
With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment through SWIFT. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, sometimes taking a fee at each step. Delivery usually takes one to several working days, and the exact cost is not always clear in advance.
Dedicated providers take another route. They have local accounts on both sides, so no money physically crosses the border: you pay in locally and the recipient is paid out locally. This usually cuts both time and cost, and you see exactly what will arrive before you confirm.
How fast a transfer really is depends on more than the provider: funding method, verification and holidays in the sending and receiving country. A first transfer can take longer because the provider has to verify your identity. Finish verification in advance when a deadline is involved.
A worked example with 1,000.00 USD
Consider an amount of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 18.9050, you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the MXN side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Looking at all 9 providers we track, Wise came out cheapest for this amount, with 18,811.38 MXN at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Note that a different amount can produce a different winner. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above to see the ranking that applies to you.
