The USD/USDT exchange rate at a glance
The page you are reading brings together the rate for US Dollar (USD) and Tether (USDT), together with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. At the latest update on October 30, 2026, 1 USD equals 1.0009 USDT, while 1 USDT is worth 0.999094 USD.
The figure at the top is the mid-market rate. It sits exactly halfway between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as the cleanest reference you can get: it contains no profit margin and no fees, which is exactly why consumers almost never receive it in full.
What you actually receive is shaped by two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Further down we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to keep more of your money when you swap US Dollar for Tether.
Exchange rate markup and fees on USD/USDT
Most providers stay away from the rate of 1.0009 as such. Instead they shift the rate in their own favour and pocket the gap. That gap is called the spread. A markup of 2%, for example, means that for every 100 USD you convert, about 2 USD worth disappears before the money arrives.
On top of the margin, many providers charge an explicit fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The only fair way to compare is the final USDT figure for exactly the same sum, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
Getting the most USDT for your USD
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A small fee on its own says little because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is how much USDT arrives for your USD, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
If you pay or withdraw cash in a USDT country, you may be asked whether to pay in USD or in the local currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Always opt to pay in the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing plays a role too. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It saves you from checking the rate every day, but the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, while a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Sending less often but in larger amounts also cuts the impact of fixed fees.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Check the provider’s licence first. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds.
Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
A worked example with 1,000.00 USD
Consider a transfer of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 1.0009, you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the USDT side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, because margins and fees come off first.
Across the 16 providers in our comparison, Crypto.com came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 999.66 USDT in the end. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.
Keep in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 USD is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.
The USD/USDT rate over twelve months
Compared with a year ago, the price of USD in USDT has changed by +0.12%. During that year the rate peaked at 1.0016 USDT per USD, while the low point came in at 0.997501. The current 1.0009 sits somewhere inside that range.
That range between high and low puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
Crypto spreads, network fees and custody
Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On an exchange with an order book, you deal with a spread between the highest bid and the lowest ask, on top of a maker or taker fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price with the margin already included.
Withdrawing crypto from a platform, a network fee applies. That fee does not depend on the amount, which makes small withdrawals relatively expensive. Make sure the sending and receiving side use the same network: a mismatch can mean the funds never arrive.
Volatility is much higher than with regular currencies. Quoted prices tend to expire quickly, while large trades risk slippage. Treat the figure above as an indication.
Custody is another point to consider. On a platform, someone else manages the private keys, while in your own wallet you are fully responsible for the keys. Look for registration with a financial supervisor before you deposit.
About this comparison
We start from the live mid-market rate for USD/USDT. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in USDT. The comparison covers 16 providers, placed side by side.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. The final price is always set by the provider itself, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.
GoldexPay is independent. We may earn a commission through some links, which help fund our work. That never changes the ranking: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
