The USDT/USD exchange rate explained

This page tracks the price relationship between Tether (USDT) and US Dollar (USD) and sets it next to the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, one USDT is worth 0.999094 USD, while a single USD comes to 1.0009 USDT.

The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is calculated as the middle of what wholesale traders pay for USDT and what they ask for it. Think of it as a neutral benchmark: no fee or margin is built in, and that is why you rarely get it as a private customer.

What you actually receive depends on two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Below the converter and chart we take those costs apart, look at what a conversion costs in practice and share simple habits to lose less on the exchange when you swap Tether for US Dollar.

Larger transfers: what to check first

Make sure the provider is licensed. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own, which protects you if something goes wrong.

Verify every detail of the recipient. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.

Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.

Sample calculation for 1,000.00 USDT

Take an amount of 1,000.00 USDT. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (0.999094), you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in USD. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.

Looking at all 16 providers we track, Crypto.com gave the best result: the recipient gets 997.85 USD at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is the real price of the transfer.

Bear in mind that a different amount can produce a different winner. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Run your own figure through the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.

The USDT/USD rate over twelve months

Over the past twelve months, the price of USDT in USD shows a change of -0.12%. Within those twelve months the highest level was 1.0025 USD for one USDT, and the lowest was 0.998360. The current 0.999094 can be measured against those two levels.

The distance between the high and the low shows how much the rate can move in practice. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If timing matters to you, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

Converting USDT to USD as a crypto pair

Where you convert matters a lot with crypto. On an exchange with an order book, there is a gap between the buy and sell price, the spread, and a commission per trade. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price which hides a wider spread.

If you withdraw coins to a wallet, you pay a network or withdrawal fee. That fee does not depend on the amount, so it weighs more on small transactions. Always check which network a platform uses: coins sent over the wrong network can be lost.

Crypto prices can move sharply within minutes. A displayed price may be fixed only for a few seconds, while large trades risk slippage. The rate on this page is a reference point, not a guaranteed price.

Also decide who holds the keys. On a platform, someone else manages the private keys, while self-custody means you alone can access, or lose, the funds. Use platforms that are registered with the regulator in your country.

Why we compare total cost

Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, which gives the amount the recipient receives. We do this for 16 providers, placed side by side.

The figures refresh every half hour, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. We may earn a commission through some links, which help pay for the site. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most USD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

Getting the most USD for your USDT

Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. The fairest figure to compare is how much USD arrives for your USDT, which combines margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a USD country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Always opt to pay in the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It takes the guesswork out, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers reduces what you pay in flat fees.

How providers price USDT to USD

Most providers will not give you the mid-market rate itself. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and keep the difference. People call this the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that you lose roughly 2 USDT on every 100 USDT, without it ever appearing as a fee.

On top of the margin, many providers ask for a separate fee. That can be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. On classic bank transfers abroad extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.

Take a close look at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. The reliable test is the final USD figure for exactly the same sum, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
