The USD/XPT exchange rate at a glance
This overview brings together the exchange rate between US Dollar (USD) and Platinum (XPT) and compares it with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. As of October 30, 2026, 1 USD equals 0.00069549 XPT, while 1 XPT comes to 1,437.83 USD.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy USD and the price at which they sell it. Think of it as the cleanest reference you can get: nobody earns anything on it directly, so few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
The amount that lands in the other account depends on two separate costs: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. In the sections below we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when you swap US Dollar for Platinum.
Exchange rate markup and fees on USD/XPT
Most providers stay away from the rate of 0.00069549 itself. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and keep the difference. This is known as the markup. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 USD never reach the recipient.
On top of the margin, most banks charge an explicit fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. With international bank payments other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Look twice at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is how much XPT the recipient ends up with for exactly the same sum, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
Larger transfers: what to check first
Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Verify every detail of the recipient. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
Precious metals priced in currency: USD/XPT
Gold and silver prices are expressed per troy ounce, equal to roughly 31.1 grams. In currency notation, gold is XAU, silver XAG, platinum XPT and palladium XPD, so the metal behaves like one side of a currency pair. One unit in this pair means one troy ounce.
That figure is the spot price: the price professionals pay for large quantities. Coins and small bars cost more than spot, because of manufacturing and dealer costs. The buyback price is normally lower than spot.
There are different ways to hold metal. Storing metal at home brings its own risks and costs. Professional storage costs a yearly fee, with the metal registered to you. Funds and certificates follow the price without you owning a bar directly.
Taxes can change the picture. Across the EU, investment gold is normally VAT-free, but silver is generally taxed. We show prices, not investment advice.
Recent movement in the USD/XPT rate
Compared with a year ago, the exchange rate moved by +42.50%. In that period the rate peaked at 0.00069549 XPT for one USD, while the bottom of the range was 0.00042172. At 0.00069549, the rate today can be measured against those two levels.
That range between high and low shows how much the rate can move in practice. For a bigger amount, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If timing matters to you, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
About this comparison
We start from the live mid-market rate for USD/XPT. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, and work out how much XPT the recipient would end up with. The comparison covers 3 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
The figures refresh every half hour, and the date on the page shows when the data was last updated. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, because their rate can move between our updates.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. We may earn a commission through some links, which help fund our work. That never changes the ranking: the provider that delivers the most XPT comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
Paying less when you change USD into XPT
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A small fee on its own says little because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is the XPT amount after every cost, and that already includes both margin and fee.
When you pay by card abroad, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. This is called dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Pick the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.
Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. When there is no deadline, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. It saves you from checking the rate every day, though the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers reduces what you pay in flat fees.
1,000.00 USD to XPT, step by step
Let’s use an amount of 1,000.00 USD. At the mid-market rate of 0.00069549, you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in XPT. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, since the margin and fees are taken out along the way.
Looking at all 3 providers we track, BullionVault came out cheapest for this amount and paid out 0.6913 XPT after all costs. The gap between 0.6913 XPT and the theoretical maximum is the real price of the transfer.
Bear in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.
