The XPT/USD exchange rate: rate, costs and context

The page you are reading follows the exchange rate between Platinum (XPT) and US Dollar (USD), together with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. On October 30, 2026, 1 XPT equals 1,437.83 USD, and 1 USD equals 0.00069549 XPT.

The rate shown above is the mid-market rate, sometimes called the interbank rate. It is calculated as the middle of the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as a fair reference point: it contains no profit margin and no fees, so consumers almost never receive it in full.

What you actually receive comes down to two things: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the visible transfer or service fee. In the sections below we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and share simple habits to keep more of your money when you swap Platinum for US Dollar.

Sending a larger amount from XPT to USD

Make sure the provider is licensed. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulated firms have to safeguard client funds and that offers protection if the company fails.

Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Verify through a channel you trust.

For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.

Troy ounces, spot price and premiums

Gold and silver prices are expressed per troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams. The codes XAU, XAG, XPT and XPD stand for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, and they are treated like a currency in this pair. The rate shown is the price of one troy ounce.

That figure is the spot price: the price professionals pay for large quantities. Coins and small bars cost more than spot, to pay for production, distribution and the seller’s margin. When you sell, dealers usually pay somewhat below spot.

You can own precious metals in several forms. Keeping coins or bars yourself means arranging storage and insurance. Professional storage costs a yearly fee, with the metal registered to you. Funds and certificates follow the price without you owning a bar directly.

Check how tax applies as well. Across the EU, investment gold is normally VAT-free, but silver is generally taxed. This page shows the price and does not tell you whether to buy or sell.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

Most providers will not give you the rate of 1,437.83 as such. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. This is known as the spread. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 XPT on every 100 XPT, without it ever appearing as a fee.

Besides the hidden margin, many providers add a visible fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Take a close look at offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". The cost often sits in the rate instead. The reliable test is how much USD the recipient ends up with for the same amount of XPT, and that is the figure our table ranks on.

Platinum against US Dollar: the last twelve months

Compared with a year ago, the XPT/USD rate moved by -29.83%. During that year the top of the range was 2,371.23 USD per XPT, while the lowest was 1,437.83. Today’s rate of 1,437.83 is easy to place within that band.

That range between high and low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

Exchange rates respond to central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. The statistics here are historical, not a forecast. If you want to act on a certain rate, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.

How GoldexPay compares XPT to USD providers

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 1,437.83. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, which gives the amount the recipient receives. In total 3 providers are included, so you can see the differences at a glance.

The figures refresh every half hour, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.

GoldexPay is independent. Some of the links are affiliate links. They have no influence on the order: the provider that delivers the most USD comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.

0.5000 XPT to USD, step by step

Let’s use an amount of 0.5000 XPT. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (1,437.83), that marks the theoretical maximum of what is possible on the USD side. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.

Of the 3 providers we compared, BullionVault delivered the most: the recipient gets 714.60 USD at the time of our last update. The gap between 714.60 USD and the theoretical maximum is what the conversion actually cost you.

Note that a different amount can produce a different winner. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Run your own figure through the converter for a ranking that fits your situation.

How to get a better XPT to USD rate

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is the amount received, and that already includes both margin and fee.

At foreign tills and cash machines, you may be asked whether to pay in XPT or in the local currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Choose the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Watch the timing as well. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. That avoids guessing, though the target may never be reached.

The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
