Converting Tether into Bitcoin explained
This overview follows the price relationship between Tether (USDT) and Bitcoin (BTC) and sets it next to what real providers charge to convert one into the other. As of October 30, 2026, 1 USDT buys 0.0000130026 BTC, while one BTC comes to 76,907.75 USDT.
The figure at the top is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Treat it as the cleanest reference you can get: no fee or margin is built in, which is exactly why you rarely get it as a private customer.
What ends up on the BTC side depends on two separate costs: a markup hidden in the exchange rate and the fee you see on the order screen. Further down we explain how those costs work, put them side by side and give concrete ways to lose less on the exchange when converting USDT to BTC.
Larger transfers: what to check first
Check the provider’s licence first. A regulated provider is registered with a supervisor such as the FCA or your national central bank. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Check names and account details twice. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Larger transfers often come with additional questions. You may need to show proof of the source of funds, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
Getting the most BTC for your USDT
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. What you want to know is the BTC amount after every cost, which combines margin and fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, you can get a choice between your own currency and the local one. This is called dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.
Timing can also matter. Some providers widen their margin at weekends, when currency markets are closed. For transfers that can wait, you can set a target rate and let the provider convert only when it is reached. That avoids guessing, though the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Bundling smaller transfers reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Why we compare total cost
Our starting point is the current mid-market rate. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, and work out how much BTC the recipient would end up with. In total 20 providers are included, ranked from most to least received.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, and it can differ slightly from our calculation.
GoldexPay is independent. Some of the links are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. They have no influence on the order: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
Converting USDT to BTC as a crypto pair
Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On a trading platform, there is a gap between the buy and sell price, the spread, plus a trading fee. Simple broker apps often show one price that has the cost baked in.
If you withdraw coins to a wallet, a network fee applies. It is unrelated to how much you move, so it weighs more on small transactions. Double-check the network before you send: coins sent over the wrong network can be lost.
Volatility is much higher than with regular currencies. A displayed price may be fixed only for a few seconds, and big orders can fill at a worse price than shown. Treat the figure above as an indication.
Custody is another point to consider. If you leave crypto on a platform, the platform controls it, whereas in your own wallet you are fully responsible for the keys. Look for registration with a financial supervisor before you deposit.
Where the cost of converting USDT to BTC hides
Most providers stay away from the mid-market rate itself. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and earn on the difference. This is known as the exchange rate margin. A markup of 2%, for example, means that about 2 out of every 100 USDT never reach the recipient.
Besides the hidden margin, a lot of services ask for a separate fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. With international bank payments the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Take a close look at services that advertise free transfers. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The only fair way to compare is the total amount that arrives in BTC for the same amount of USDT, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
A worked example with 1,000.00 USDT
Take an amount of 1,000.00 USDT. At the mid-market rate of 0.0000130026, that sum sets the ceiling for what any provider could deliver in BTC. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, because margins and fees come off first.
Of the 20 providers we compared, Crypto.com came out cheapest for this amount: the recipient gets 0.0130 BTC after all costs. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Note that rankings shift with the amount you send. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.
How USDT/BTC moved over the past year
Over the past twelve months, the USDT/BTC rate has changed by +43.02%. Within those twelve months the top of the range was 0.0000170526 BTC per USDT, and the lowest was 0.0000090498. The current 0.0000130026 is easy to place within that band.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
Rates are pushed around by central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you are waiting for a particular level, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
