USDT to JPY explained
This overview follows the exchange rate between Tether (USDT) and Japanese Yen (JPY), together with what real providers charge to convert one into the other. At the latest update on October 30, 2026, one USDT is worth 157.1537 JPY, while 1 JPY equals 0.00636320 USDT.
The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It sits exactly halfway between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. Treat it as a fair reference point: nobody earns anything on it directly, which is exactly why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
What you actually receive is shaped by two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and any fixed or percentage fee. In the sections below we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when you change USDT into JPY.
What to know about USDT/JPY on crypto platforms
Crypto prices differ from platform to platform. On a trading platform, you deal with a spread between the highest bid and the lowest ask, on top of a maker or taker fee. Simple broker apps often show one price which hides a wider spread.
If you withdraw coins to a wallet, there is a separate network charge. It is often a fixed amount regardless of the size of the transfer, so for small amounts it can be a large share. Always check which network a platform uses: coins sent over the wrong network can be lost.
Volatility is much higher than with regular currencies. A displayed price may be fixed only for a few seconds, while large trades risk slippage. Treat the figure above as an indication.
Custody is another point to consider. If you leave crypto on a platform, the platform controls it, whereas self-custody means you alone can access, or lose, the funds. Use platforms that are registered with the regulator in your country.
How we rank providers for USDT to JPY
We start from the live mid-market rate for USDT/JPY. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much JPY the recipient would end up with. The comparison covers 2 providers, ranked from most to least received.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 30, 2026. The final price is always set by the provider itself, because their rate can move between our updates, especially when markets are busy.
We are not owned by any provider. We may earn a commission through some links. The order is never affected by them: the provider that delivers the most JPY comes first, whether or not we have a link to it.
What banks and apps really charge for USDT to JPY
Most providers do not convert at the rate of 157.1537 as such. Instead they shift the rate in their own favour and pocket the gap. That gap is called the exchange rate margin. With a 2% markup, for instance, about 2 out of every 100 USDT never reach the recipient.
Next to that markup, many providers charge an explicit fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a percentage of the amount or a mix of both. For transfers sent through the banking network extra deductions can follow, and those only show up at the end.
Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is the final JPY figure for exactly the same sum, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
Getting the most JPY for your USDT
Look at the final amount, not just the fee. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive when the margin is high. The fairest figure to compare is how much JPY arrives for your USDT, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing can also matter. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. For transfers that can wait, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It saves you from checking the rate every day, but the target may never be reached.
Finally, look at how you pay. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Sending less often but in larger amounts reduces what you pay in flat fees.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Make sure the provider is licensed. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. Once money has left, getting it back is difficult. Be suspicious if someone urges you to pay quickly or suddenly changes bank details. Call to confirm, using contact details you already had.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, like a statement or a sales contract. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
A worked example with 1,000.00 USDT
Let’s use a transfer of 1,000.00 USDT. At the mid-market rate of 157.1537, you can work out the upper limit of what any provider could deliver in JPY. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, because margins and fees come off first.
Looking at all 2 providers we track, Kraken delivered the most, with 156,446.86 JPY in the end. Whatever is missing compared with the mid-market amount is the real price of the transfer.
Bear in mind that the cheapest provider for 1,000.00 USDT is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. A flat fee hurts most when the amount is small, while the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Enter your own amount in the converter and check whether the order changes.
The USDT/JPY rate over twelve months
Across the last year, the USDT/JPY rate shows a change of +1.76%. In that period the rate peaked at 163.7163 JPY for one USDT, while the lowest was 152.4708. At 157.1537, the rate today sits somewhere inside that range.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment of conversion matters in actual money, sometimes more than the choice of provider.
Rates are pushed around by interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you are waiting for a particular level, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
