Converting Gold into Platinum at a glance

The page you are reading tracks the price relationship between Gold (XAU) and Platinum (XPT) and compares it with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. On October 31, 2026, 1 XAU equals 2.6981 XPT, while a single XPT equals 0.370637 XAU.

The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy XAU and the price at which they sell it. It works as a neutral benchmark: it contains no profit margin and no fees, and that is why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What ends up on the XPT side comes down to two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Further down we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and give concrete ways to keep more of your money when converting XAU to XPT.

Reading a gold or silver price

Gold and silver prices are expressed per troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams. The codes XAU, XAG, XPT and XPD stand for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, which is why they appear here like any other currency. The figure above refers to one troy ounce.

That figure is the spot price: the price professionals pay for large quantities. Retail products carry a premium above that price, to pay for production, distribution and the seller’s margin. Selling back typically happens below the spot price.

Ownership comes in more than one shape. Keeping coins or bars yourself means arranging storage and insurance. Vault storage through a dealer costs a yearly fee, with the metal registered to you. Exchange-traded products give exposure to the price, not always to the metal itself.

Check how tax applies as well. In the EU, investment gold is generally exempt from VAT, while silver usually is not. The information here is meant as background, not as advice.

Getting the most XPT for your XAU

Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. The number that matters is the amount received, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.

When you pay by card abroad, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. The rate used is usually poor. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. If you are not in a hurry, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. That avoids guessing, though there is no guarantee the rate will get there.

Finally, look at how you pay. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, while a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Sending less often but in larger amounts also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

Mid-market rate versus the rate you get

The majority of services will not give you the mid-market rate itself. Instead they shift the rate in their own favour and earn on the difference. This is known as the spread. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 XAU on every 100 XAU, without it ever appearing as a fee.

On top of the margin, most banks add a visible fee. It may be a fixed amount per transfer, a share of what you send or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad other banks along the route may take their own cut, and those only show up at the end.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". Free usually means the price is built into the exchange rate. What really counts is the final XPT figure for the same amount of XAU, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.

Recent movement in the XAU/XPT rate

Over the past twelve months, the XAU/XPT rate shows a change of +11.41%. In that period the top of the range was 2.7144 XPT for one XAU, while the bottom of the range was 2.1460. At 2.6981, the rate today sits somewhere inside that range.

That range between high and low is a useful reminder of how far the rate can travel. When you convert a substantial sum, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, sometimes more than the choice of provider.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you want to act on a certain rate, it is more practical to set an alert than to guess.

How our XAU/XPT comparison works

Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 2.6981. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in XPT. We do this for 0 providers, ranked from most to least received.

We update the rates every 30 minutes, with October 31, 2026 as the reference date. Always check the final quote in the provider’s app or website, and it can differ slightly from our calculation, especially when markets are busy.

GoldexPay is independent. Some links on this page are affiliate links. They have no influence on the order: providers are sorted purely by how much XPT the recipient gets.

Safety checks before you convert XAU to XPT

Only use providers that are regulated. Look for authorisation from the FCA in the UK or the financial regulator in your own country. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.

Verify every detail of the recipient. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Unexpected changes to payment details are a classic warning sign. Verify through a channel you trust.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Have documents ready that show where the money came from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. For big amounts it can pay to ask for a better rate. Some also let you lock in a rate for a short period.
