Bybit versus HTX: which one leaves you with more
Choosing between Bybit and HTX is rarely about the logo. What matters is how much you actually keep once the fee and the rate markup are added up. That is the gap we measure here.
In our comparison, Bybit belongs to the crypto exchange category and works with Currencies, Cryptocurrencies, while HTX sits in crypto exchange with support for Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. That alone tells you quite a lot about when one can stand in for the other.
Under the calculator and the scenario table we walk through our method, what each one is good at and how to combine the two. Rates on this page are live, so today’s result is not set in stone.
What to compare between two exchanges
Crypto exchanges price their service in several layers. First the spread: the difference between buy and sell price on a simple purchase. On the trading screen, maker and taker fees apply instead: makers add orders to the order book, takers fill existing ones.
Deposits and withdrawals deserve a separate look. A bank transfer is usually the cheapest way to fund an account; a card is faster but pricier. Withdrawal fees on coins vary a lot, so check the asset you plan to move.
Finally, think about custody. Leaving assets on a platform means trusting it to keep them safe. If you plan to move coins to your own wallet, include the withdrawal fee in your comparison.
Delivery time and ease of use
Fastest delivery: Instant at Bybit and Instant at HTX. Treat these as the best case rather than a promise. Weekends, first-time checks and the recipient’s bank can slow things down.
The payment method matters as much as the provider. Paying by card tends to be faster, and sometimes more expensive, than a standard bank transfer. When there is no rush, a slower option can save you money.
Beyond raw speed, think about convenience: clear status updates and an app you like save time and stress. A small test transfer tells you more than any review.
Regulation and safety
Before you look at cost, check who is looking after your money. Look for a licence or registration with a financial regulator in your country or region. You can usually find the licence details in the footer or legal section of the provider’s website.
With e-money and transfer services, ask about safeguarding: your balance should be held apart from the firm’s own money. That is a different kind of protection from a bank deposit guarantee scheme.
Crypto exchanges deserve extra scrutiny: ask about registration, custody and withdrawal options. Whichever you choose, switch on two-factor authentication and use a unique password.
Does the amount matter?
The size of the amount can change the winner. A fixed fee weighs heavily on a small transfer but barely registers on a large one. That is why the scenario table shows several amounts, not just one.
Some providers lower their percentage above certain thresholds, something our standard scenarios do not always capture. With Bybit or HTX, check the current terms before you move a significant sum.
Can you use Bybit and HTX together?
Using two providers side by side is common. It is perfectly normal to keep Bybit for one task and HTX for another. Signing up rarely costs anything, but verification is not always instant.
Before every larger transfer, run the amount through the calculator, as the result depends on the moment and the sum. That small habit can save more than any loyalty bonus.
If you switch, empty the balance, cancel any recurring payments and save your statements, as you may need them later for your tax return.
Same category, different details
Bybit and HTX belong to the same category, crypto exchange, so they compete for the same customers. That makes the differences smaller, but they still matter.
Look at coverage first: supported currencies, countries and payment methods. On paper, Bybit supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies and HTX supports Currencies, Cryptocurrencies. A small gap in coverage can matter more than a small price difference.
Then compare price on the route you actually use, plus limits, verification and the quality of the app. Because they are so similar, trying the other one later costs little.
The right choice depends on what you do
If you mainly spend abroad on holiday, compare what a card payment in a foreign currency costs at each. A multi-currency account with a card is usually the most practical tool.
If you send money abroad regularly, look at the amount received and how fast it arrives. For large amounts, such as a house deposit or tuition, even a small margin difference adds up, and limits and verification matter as well.
When buying crypto, only a provider that handles crypto will do, and spreads and withdrawal fees matter most. Business users often need other features, such as multiple users and bulk payments. We compare costs only; this is not investment advice.
Our method
Every provider earns money in two ways: the fee you see and the markup on the rate that you often do not. We compare the rate each provider gives you with the live mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the wholesale market. The gap is the margin, and we add it to the fee.
We test a range of sample amounts, small, medium and large, since a fixed fee hurts more on small sums. Exchange rates are refreshed every 30 minutes; fees are taken from the published fee schedules. Promotions, account tiers and personal discounts are not always included, so your own offer may differ.
GoldexPay is independent. We may earn a commission through some links; that never affects which provider comes out cheaper. If a provider we earn nothing from is cheaper, it still comes out on top.
The fee is only half the story
Plenty of services advertise a zero fee. If the exchange rate you get is worse than the mid-market rate, you pay through the rate instead. The bigger the amount, the more that margin hurts.
So we never compare fees on their own. Bybit and HTX may structure their pricing differently, one with a visible fee and a tight rate, the other with no fee and a wider spread. What counts is what lands in the account at the end.
Watch for extra costs outside the conversion itself: card payment fees, surcharges for weekends or rare currencies, and costs on the receiving side. Not all of these show up in our scenarios, so read the fee page before you send a large amount.
Which one is cheaper?
In 4 of 4 conversions that Bybit and HTX both support, Bybit came out cheaper after fees and rate margin. If cost is your main concern, start with Bybit.
This does not rule out HTX. The scenario table above shows which conversions HTX still wins, and if your own transfer matches one of those rows, HTX is simply the cheaper option for you.
There is more to it than price. You may already have a verified account with HTX, which saves a sign-up. For small sums, those practical points can outweigh the price difference.
