ETH to GBP at a glance

This page tracks the exchange rate between Ethereum (ETH) and British Pound (GBP), together with the prices that banks, money apps and exchanges actually ask. At the latest update on October 30, 2026, one ETH is worth 1,662.66 GBP, while one GBP comes to 0.00060145 ETH.

The figure at the top is the mid-market rate. It sits exactly halfway between the price at which large banks buy ETH and the price at which they sell it. Treat it as the cleanest reference you can get: it contains no profit margin and no fees, which is exactly why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.

What you actually receive comes down to two separate costs: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we show how those costs are built up, put them side by side and give concrete ways to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting ETH to GBP.

Why we compare total cost

We start from the live mid-market rate for ETH/GBP. We then apply each provider’s published fees and exchange rate margin, to calculate what actually arrives in GBP. The comparison covers 4 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.

Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, since markets keep moving.

No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some links on this page are affiliate links. That never changes the ranking: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.

What banks and apps really charge for ETH to GBP

Most providers do not convert at the mid-market rate as such. Instead they quote a slightly worse rate and pocket the gap. This is known as the exchange rate margin. If the margin is 2%, then you lose roughly 2 ETH on every 100 ETH, without it ever appearing as a fee.

Next to that markup, most banks charge an explicit fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. On classic bank transfers abroad other banks along the route may take their own cut, so the recipient gets less than you expected.

Be wary of offers that say "no fees" or "0% commission". In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. What really counts is the total amount that arrives in GBP for the same amount of ETH, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.

What to know about ETH/GBP on crypto platforms

With crypto, the price you pay depends heavily on where you trade. On an exchange with an order book, you pay the difference between bid and ask, plus a trading fee. Easy buy buttons in apps usually quote a single price which hides a wider spread.

Withdrawing crypto from a platform, a network fee applies. It is often a fixed amount regardless of the size of the transfer, so for small amounts it can be a large share. Make sure the sending and receiving side use the same network: mistakes here are rarely reversible.

Crypto prices can move sharply within minutes. Quoted prices tend to expire quickly, and big orders can fill at a worse price than shown. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.

Also decide who holds the keys. If you leave crypto on a platform, the platform controls it, whereas self-custody means you alone can access, or lose, the funds. Look for registration with a financial supervisor before you deposit.

Ethereum against British Pound: the last twelve months

Across the last year, the exchange rate has changed by -44.08%. Within those twelve months the rate peaked at 2,973.26 GBP per ETH, while the low point came in at 1,170.12. Today’s rate of 1,662.66 is easy to place within that band.

The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. On a large conversion, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, even when the fee stays the same.

The rate reflects central bank policy, economic data and shifts in risk appetite. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If timing matters to you, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.

Paying less when you change ETH into GBP

Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive if the rate is poor. What you want to know is the GBP amount after every cost, which combines margin and fee.

If you pay or withdraw cash in a GBP country, a terminal may offer to charge you in your home currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. It tends to be among the most expensive ways to convert. Choose the local currency and let your own card provider do the conversion.

Timing can also matter. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, a rate alert or limit order lets you convert automatically once ETH/GBP reaches a level you choose. That avoids guessing, but the target may never be reached.

The payment method matters as well. Card payments often cost more than a bank transfer, and a regular bank transfer to the provider is usually the cheapest way in. Bundling smaller transfers also cuts the impact of fixed fees.

Example: converting 0.5000 ETH

Consider an amount of 0.5000 ETH. Using the reference rate of 1,662.66, that marks the theoretical maximum of what is possible on the GBP side. No service pays out that exact figure, because margins and fees come off first.

Looking at all 4 providers we track, Kraken gave the best result and paid out 827.59 GBP at the time of our last update. The gap between 827.59 GBP and the theoretical maximum shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.

Bear in mind that the cheapest provider for 0.5000 ETH is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas the margin in the rate becomes the bigger cost on larger transfers. Try your actual amount in the calculator above and check whether the order changes.

Sending a larger amount from ETH to GBP

Check the provider’s licence first. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Licensed payment firms must keep customer money separate from their own.

Check names and account details twice. Mistakes are rarely fixed quickly with transfers abroad. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.

Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
