ETH to USD: what you are looking at
The page you are reading brings together the rate for Ethereum (ETH) and US Dollar (USD) and compares it with the cost of an actual conversion at a range of providers. As of October 30, 2026, 1 ETH buys 2,227.60 USD, and one USD is worth 0.00044891 ETH.
The figure at the top is the interbank mid rate. It is the midpoint between the buying and selling prices on the wholesale market. It works as a fair reference point: nobody earns anything on it directly, which is exactly why you rarely get it as a private customer.
What ends up on the USD side comes down to two separate costs: the margin a provider adds to that rate and the visible transfer or service fee. Below the converter and chart we explain how those costs work, look at what a conversion costs in practice and list practical steps to lose less on the exchange when you swap Ethereum for US Dollar.
Converting ETH to USD as a crypto pair
With crypto, the price you pay depends heavily on where you trade. On a trading platform, you pay the difference between bid and ask, plus a trading fee. Simple broker apps often show one price that has the cost baked in.
Withdrawing crypto from a platform, there is a separate network charge. It is often a fixed amount regardless of the size of the transfer, which makes small withdrawals relatively expensive. Double-check the network before you send: a mismatch can mean the funds never arrive.
Volatility is much higher than with regular currencies. A quote is often only valid for a short moment, while large trades risk slippage. Use the rate here as a guide, not as a binding quote.
Think about custody as well. On a platform, someone else manages the private keys, while in your own wallet you are fully responsible for the keys. Look for registration with a financial supervisor before you deposit.
Recent movement in the ETH/USD rate
Across the last year, the exchange rate moved by -42.92%. In that period the top of the range was 3,905.34 USD for one ETH, while the bottom of the range was 1,566.01. Today’s rate of 2,227.60 can be measured against those two levels.
That range between high and low shows how much the rate can move in practice. For a bigger amount, timing has a visible effect on the outcome, even when the fee stays the same.
Exchange rates respond to interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. We show the figures as they are and do not make predictions. If you are waiting for a particular level, a rate alert is a calmer option than trying to predict the market.
Sample calculation for 0.5000 ETH
Consider a conversion of 0.5000 ETH. Converted at the pure mid-market rate (2,227.60), you can work out the upper limit of what is possible on the USD side. In reality every provider keeps something, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Looking at all 16 providers we track, Crypto.com delivered the most and paid out 1,112.41 USD at the time of our last update. The gap between 1,112.41 USD and the theoretical maximum shows the true cost, fees and margin combined.
Bear in mind that the cheapest provider for 0.5000 ETH is not automatically the cheapest for every amount. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, while a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Enter your own amount in the converter to see the ranking that applies to you.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Make sure the provider is licensed. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own and that offers protection if the company fails.
Check names and account details twice. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.
Big sums usually trigger extra verification. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, such as a payslip, sale agreement or bank statement. Some services offer better rates or a personal contact for larger transfers. Ask whether you can fix the rate in advance.
Tips for converting ETH to USD
Compare the total cost, not the fee alone. A provider with a low fee can still be expensive because the margin can make up the difference. The number that matters is the USD amount after every cost, and that already includes both the markup and the fee.
At foreign tills and cash machines, you may be asked whether to pay in ETH or in the local currency. The trade name for this is dynamic currency conversion. It usually comes with a steep markup. Pick the local currency so your bank or card issuer handles the exchange.
Timing plays a role too. At weekends, with the wholesale market shut, some services add an extra buffer to the rate. When there is no deadline, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. That avoids guessing, but there is no guarantee the rate will get there.
Also check how you fund the transfer. Paying by credit card can trigger extra charges, and a plain bank transfer is normally the low-cost option. Bundling smaller transfers means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
How providers price ETH to USD
Nearly every bank and app stay away from the mid-market rate itself. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. People call this the exchange rate margin. With a 2% markup, for instance, for every 100 ETH you convert, about 2 ETH worth disappears before the money arrives.
Next to that markup, most banks add a visible fee. This is usually a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or a mix of both. With international bank payments the receiving or intermediary bank sometimes deducts a charge too, so the recipient gets less than you expected.
Look twice at services that advertise free transfers. The cost often sits in the rate instead. What really counts is the final USD figure for exactly the same sum, and the comparison table on this page is ranked on exactly that.
About this comparison
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 2,227.60. Each provider’s published fee and markup are applied on top, and work out how much USD the recipient would end up with. The comparison covers 16 providers, so you can see the differences at a glance.
We update the rates every 30 minutes, with October 30, 2026 as the reference date. The final price is always set by the provider itself, because their rate can move between our updates.
GoldexPay is independent. Some links on this page are affiliate links. The order is never affected by them: the only ranking criterion is the amount received.
