HKD to INR explained
The page you are reading tracks the exchange rate between Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) and Indian Rupee (INR) and sets it next to what real providers charge to convert one into the other. At the latest update on October 31, 2026, 1 HKD buys 12.1041 INR, while 1 INR is worth 0.082616 HKD.
The rate shown above is the mid-market rate. It is calculated as the middle of the price at which large banks buy HKD and the price at which they sell it. It works as a fair reference point: no fee or margin is built in, which is exactly why few consumer services pass it on unchanged.
What ends up on the INR side comes down to two things: the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate and any fixed or percentage fee. In the sections below we take those costs apart, look at what a conversion costs in practice and give concrete ways to get closer to the mid-market rate when converting HKD to INR.
Choosing a route to send INR
With a classic international transfer, the bank sends the payment over the SWIFT network. Along the way one or more intermediary banks may handle it, and each can take a fee. Expect anything from one to a few working days, with the full cost not always known upfront.
Many money transfer apps use a different model. They keep money in accounts in both regions, which means your payment and the payout both happen domestically. The result tends to be quicker and less expensive, and the amount that arrives is known in advance.
Speed is not down to the provider alone: how you pay, the time of day, cut-off times and bank holidays in both countries. The very first payment may be slower as the provider completes its checks. Get verified before you need to send when a deadline is involved.
A worked example with 10,000.00 HKD
Take a conversion of 10,000.00 HKD. Using the reference rate of 12.1041, that sum sets the ceiling for what any provider could deliver in INR. In practice nobody hands over that full amount, as costs are deducted somewhere in the process.
Of the 9 providers we compared, Wise gave the best result, with 120,453.79 INR at the time of our last update. The difference between that figure and the mid-market amount is what the conversion actually cost you.
Keep in mind that rankings shift with the amount you send. Fixed fees weigh heavily on small sums, whereas a percentage margin grows along with the amount. Run your own figure through the converter for a ranking that fits your situation.
Where Hong Kong Dollar and Indian Rupee are used
Hong Kong Dollar is the legal tender in Hong Kong SAR China. Indian Rupee is the official currency of India. This matters for anyone who earns in one of these currencies and spends in the other.
People convert HKD to INR for many reasons: paying suppliers, supporting relatives, buying property or simply travelling. What suits one case may not suit another: a one-off large payment benefits most from a sharp rate, while regular small amounts are more sensitive to fixed fees.
Payout methods vary from country to country. Depending on the country, you need an IBAN, a local account number or a mobile wallet and in certain countries payout to a mobile wallet is the norm. Have the recipient’s full details ready before you begin.
Why we compare total cost
Every calculation begins with the mid-market rate of 12.1041. For each provider we apply its published fees and the margin it adds to the rate, to calculate what actually arrives in INR. In total 9 providers are included, ranked from most to least received.
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes, so the page reflects the market of October 31, 2026. Providers confirm their own price at checkout, because their rate can move between our updates.
No bank, app or exchange owns GoldexPay. Some links on this page are affiliate links, which help pay for the site. The order is never affected by them: providers are sorted purely by how much INR the recipient gets.
What banks and apps really charge for HKD to INR
Most providers do not convert at the rate of 12.1041 as such. Instead they offer a rate that is a little less favourable and pocket the gap. That gap is called the markup. With a 2% markup, for instance, you lose roughly 2 HKD on every 100 HKD, without it ever appearing as a fee.
Besides the hidden margin, many providers add a visible fee. It may be a flat charge per payment, a share of what you send or both at once. For transfers sent through the banking network extra deductions can follow, which shrinks the amount that finally arrives.
Be wary of anything sold as commission-free. In many cases the margin in the rate simply does the work of the fee. The reliable test is the total amount that arrives in INR for exactly the same sum, and that is the figure our table ranks on.
How HKD/INR moved over the past year
Over the past twelve months, the HKD/INR rate shows a change of +6.02%. Within those twelve months the rate peaked at 12.3584 INR for one HKD, while the lowest was 11.3659. Today’s rate of 12.1041 sits somewhere inside that range.
The distance between the high and the low puts the movement into real terms. For a bigger amount, the moment you choose can make a noticeable difference to what arrives, occasionally more than the difference between providers.
Exchange rates respond to interest rate decisions, inflation figures, trade flows and general market sentiment. These figures describe the past and say nothing about what comes next. If you are waiting for a particular level, use an alert or limit order rather than a hunch.
Before you send: security and large amounts
Only use providers that are regulated. In the UK that means authorisation by the FCA, elsewhere a central bank or financial supervisor. Regulation includes rules on keeping your money apart from the company’s own.
Double-check the recipient details before you confirm. An international payment is hard to reverse once it is sent. Watch out for pressure, urgency or a last-minute change of account details: confirm by phone using a number you already know.
For large amounts, expect extra checks. Providers may ask for proof of where the money comes from, for example a contract of sale or an account statement. Some providers lower their margin on request for larger customers. A rate lock, where offered, removes uncertainty while the money is on its way.
Getting the most INR for your HKD
Judge on what arrives, not on what is advertised. A low headline fee proves nothing because the margin can make up the difference. What you want to know is how much INR arrives for your HKD, which combines margin and fee.
When you pay by card abroad, you may be asked whether to pay in HKD or in the local currency. That option is known as dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. The rate used is usually poor. Always opt to pay in the local currency and the conversion follows your card’s own terms.
Watch the timing as well. Rates quoted on a Saturday or Sunday can include a weekend surcharge. For transfers that can wait, an alert tells you when the rate hits a level you are happy with. It saves you from checking the rate every day, though the target may never be reached.
The payment method matters as well. A credit card may be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer, and funding by bank transfer tends to keep costs down. Combining several small payments into one larger transfer means fixed charges hit you fewer times.
